How will you make an impact in this role?
This role is part of the Data Issue Management & Risk Monitoring function within the Finance Data Governance organization and supports the Director in building capabilities around data quality controls, DQ Issue management and Data Observability.
This role will work towards establishing a new team and managing a comprehensive process for identifying, tracking, remediating, and monitoring data issues and risks that impact financial integrity, reporting, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in data governance, controls framework, and risk management with a strong background in financial data within a regulated environment. Prior experience in financial services and regulatory reporting as a SME, Business Analyst or directly with BCBS239 regulatory frameworks would be highly desirable, but not mandatory.
Responsibilities:
Support in the design and implementation of the Data Issue Management framework, including intake, assessment, classification, prioritization, root cause analysis, remediation, and closure validation.
Develop finance and regulatory reporting domain expertise for key regulatory reports to support root cause analysis for operational data issues and identify thematic issues.
Develop tools and data assets that provide risk-based monitoring protocols, including early warning indicators, risk heat maps, and control effectiveness metrics.
Support in establishing standards and workflows for data issue escalation, ownership assignment, and governance approvals.
Maintain a centralized inventory of open and historical data issues, ensuring accurate documentation, traceability, and audit readiness.
Collaborate with various stakeholders to proactively identify data risks and implement preventative controls.
Support in facilitating governance forums and working groups to track progress, resolve cross-functional blockers, and identify themes across issue types.
Produce regular reporting and dashboards for senior leadership, risk committees, and regulatory stakeholders, highlighting risk concentrations, issue trends, and remediation effectiveness. Minimum Qualifications:
5-8 years of experience at a large financial services institution, executing one of the following: data governance, risk management, operational controls, or regulatory reporting.
2 years of experience as a people leader.
Experience in designing and operating issue management and/or controls monitoring processes across enterprise systems.
Familiarity with governance and tracking tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, Archer, Collibra, Informatica).
Proven ability to lead through influence, build consensus, and drive accountability across diverse functions.
Experience working with large data sets and be coachable with various data and technology stacks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Information Systems, or related field; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CDMP, CISA) preferred.
Strong understanding of data risk, data quality, and issue management frameworks (e.g., COSO, DAMA-DMBOK).
Currently, the Company does not have a physical location in the Charlotte, NC metropolitan area and, therefore, if you reside in the Charlotte, NC metropolitan area the role will temporarily be deemed virtual under the Company’s applicable policy (the Amex Flex Policy). We anticipate securing a physical office location in the Charlotte, NC metropolitan area in the future. Once that occurs, you will be notified that your position will be converted to hybrid and you will be required to work in the office in accordance with the applicable Amex Flex Policy (currently under the Amex Flex Policy, hybrid colleagues are required to work from the office a minimum of 3 days per week). You understand and agree that changing your role to hybrid designation and/or requiring you work from the office in accordance with the Company’s applicable Amex Flex Policy will not deem you eligible for separation pay under the Company’s applicable severance pay plans.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
