Job Description

Purpose:

The Laboratory Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting a broad array of activities related to the day-to-day operations at an AbbVie site or similar grouping of facilities within an R&D functional area. The primary goal is to help ensure this multi-function (lab and office) facility is run with the highest level of safety and operational efficiency to support the ongoing research that will be conducted at this site.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates (in some cases may perform) maintenance of facility equipment including office and scientific equipment.

  • Coordinates calibration of lab equipment with external vendors

  • Works with property management regarding any building issues/concerns.

  • Coordinates purchasing activities of the facility for both administrative and lab functions, including consumable inventory, stocking, and organization; purchasing and receiving scientific equipment; ensuring proper installation; and cleaning

  • Coordinates handling and disposal of hazardous waste.

  • Coordinates security responsibilities associated with AbbVie’s space such as maintaining employee records for the security system and responding to building and equipment alarms.

  • Employee Health and Safety responsibilities include working with AbbVie EHS staff to ensure the safety of the facility by implementing and/or following appropriate protocols/procedures, maintaining records related to chemical and biological reagents and documentation hazardous materials, and testing/maintenance of eyewash stations, emergency showers, fire extinguishers, first aid boxes, AED’s, and other safety equipment.

  • Ensures compliance with all internal and external policies that may include areas requiring unique support and manage relationships with any associated contract service providers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering/Life Sciences, Biology or equivalent experience is required.

  • 2 - 4+ years of laboratory management experience is required

  • Experience in broad chemistry or biology focused research is preferred

  • Prior EHS experience is preferred

  • Ability to utilize step tools, ladders, pallet jack, hand trucks, and wear required PPE (lab coat, safety glasses, gloves).

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage to timelines, quality and process improvement goals

  • Ability to work independently and adjust priorities to achieve accurate and timely results

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to collaborate across functions

  • Proficient computer skills

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.??
