Summary
Lead team of best-in-class experts responsible for developing decorative and functional coating processes for our highly visible enclosures, specifically brittle substrates. This is a hands-on position requiring both outstanding technical skills and strong leadership capabilities.
Description
Provide day-to-day direction for highly technical team including feedback about technical objectives, program requirements, and team member performance.
Regularly meet with leaders from Appleās Industrial Design, Product Design, and Operations teams to set goals and provide regular updates for development and execution activities.
Present analysis to key decision makers that will be used to make commercial and design commitments.
Organize cross-functional teams to ensure that resources are aligned to successfully implement high volume processes against demanding schedules.
Collaborate with leading equipment and process manufacturing partners to create step improvements in manufacturing capabilities.
When necessary, coordinate investigations leading to robust solutions to complex manufacturing challenges.
Work directly with overseas manufacturers executing high volume solutions that meet demanding specifications.
Periodically review status of key initiatives and technical roadmaps to ensure alignment with long term design direction and commercial objectives.
Recruit, develop, and retain the best in class engineering talent.
Periodic domestic and overseas travel expected (up to 30%).
Minimum Qualifications
BS/MS in engineering (chemical, materials, mechanical, or equivalent)
At least 5 years of experience in development of coating/manufacturing processes for mechanical/brittle components - preferably in a hands-on role with cosmetic enclosures
Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing engineering teams
Experience leading advanced technology development activities resulting in successful implementation of novel manufacturing techniques.
Ability to plan, execute, and present results from investigations using statistical analysis as well as sound technical judgment
Solid understanding of mechanical properties of materials as they relate to processing requirements
History of driving teams to deliver high quality results in a fast paced environment.
Ability to travel up 30% internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA and/or PhD
Experience in developing thin film coating and PVD processes meeting demanding requirements
Previous equipment selection and implementation experience
Expertise using advanced analytical tools to characterize and resolve complex process and material issues
Solid understanding of DOE principles
Experience working with an international supply chain
