Your expertise in optical design and lab prototyping combined with a deep understanding of the requirements driving the optical design will enable deploying the optimum metrology solution for the calibration and test of the next generation of Apple products.
An ideal candidate will be eager to learn from the past and be curious about physics, data science, and technology fundamentals. Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills are required.
Description
As the hardware architect focused on novel instrumentations, you will come up with new ways to test and calibrate a range of optical modules such as optical sensors and health-sensing features during new product introduction. The ideal candidate will have had direct experience with the design and application of both optical and non-optical imaging systems, applying algorithms to process raw data to extract relevant metrics.
Research and development around metrology applied to optical imaging and non imaging modules
Define calibration & measurement engineering requirement specification of optical instruments
Collaborate with multi-functional teams to deliver innovative metrology solution
Model, simulate and experimentally verify sources of optical instrumentation error, and identify what matters to customers
Develop performance verification protocol to ensure that the instrumentation complies with defined requirements
Provide streamlined and detailed presentations
Drive technical activities and discussions with external vendors
Minimum Qualifications
MS or PhD in Optical Engineering, Applied Physics or related fields
7-10+ years of relevant industry experience
Experience in designing and testing non-imaging optics for effective light collection as well as imaging optics with a strong foundation of geometrical optics and aberration theory
Optical simulation experience with ray tracing tools such as LightTools, Zemax, Code V, etc
Proficient with Python, MATLAB
Up to 10% domestic + international traveling
Preferred Qualifications
Academic or Professional background in Biomedical Engineering or Medical Sciences, and expertise with sensors used in medical applications
Ability to translate the optics system ’s intended use into clear system level requirements
Experience in developing proof-of-concept optical systems with proven ability to quickly iterate, using data-driven decision to refine the instrument to meet its intended use
Experience developing image processing and signal processing algorithms to extract keys figure of merit from raw data
