Summary
As a Commodity Finance Analyst, you will play a critical role in managing Apple's commodity costs, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting strategic decision-making within the Worldwide Procurement Finance team. You will be responsible for forecasting commodity prices, analyzing variances, and collaborating with operations and supply chain teams to optimize costs and mitigate risks in a dynamic global market. Additionally, this role requires strong technical expertise in data querying, dashboard development, and large-scale data analysis. You will design and build scalable Tableau dashboards, write complex SQL queries, and leverage tools such as Dataiku to improve reporting efficiency, enhance data transparency, and support strategic decision-making.
Your work will directly influence gross margin performance, operational efficiency, and strategic sourcing decisions in a fast-paced global environment.
Description
The Worldwide Procurement Finance group provides analytical support for key cost data, including standard costs, forecasted costs, and actual costs for Apple’s extensive range of commodities. As a Commodity Financial Analyst, you will report to the Manager of Commodity Financial Management and support specific commodities or categories.
This role expands beyond traditional financial analysis to include ownership of data architecture, dashboard development, and process automation. You will work with large, complex datasets from multiple systems (ERP, supply chain, contract manufacturers, suppliers), transforming raw data into actionable insights and executive-level reporting.
You will operate with minimal direct supervision, performing complex and non-routine analytical tasks that directly impact gross margin and profitability. The ideal candidate combines strong financial acumen with technical data skills and a continuous improvement mindset. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related field.
5+ years of experience in finance, supply chain finance, cost accounting, or related analytical role with strong technical exposure.
Advanced Excel skills (financial modeling, large dataset handling, complex formulas).
Strong SQL skills with demonstrated experience querying large relational databases.
Experience building dashboards and visualizations in Tableau (or comparable BI tool).
Experience working with large, complex datasets across multiple systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills at both macro and micro levels.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear business insights.
Detail-oriented with strong ability to handle ambiguity and uncertainty.
Proven ability to work independently and drive results.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
Experience with Dataiku or similar data science/ETL platforms.
Operations and Supply Chain Finance experience.
Experience with data modeling, automation, and process optimization initiatives.
Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and financial data governance.
Programming experience in Python or similar language for data analysis (a plus).
