Summary
Do you want to make Apple products more intelligent while preserving user privacy? The AIML Information Intelligence team is building groundbreaking technology for search, recommendation, and privacy-preserving information retrieval. Our work helps deliver seamless, private, and intelligent experiences across Apple devices and services.
We are looking for a Backend Infrastructure Engineer to design and scale privacy-aware scalable search and retrieval systems. You will work on distributed infrastructure, advanced encryption-based data access protocols, and machine learning system integration.
Description
We design and build infrastructures to support features that empowers billions of Apple search users. Our team processes trillions of links to find the best content to surface to users through search. We also analyze pages to extract critical features for indexing, ranking. We apply statistical analysis to improve crawling, extraction quality, web and knowledge graph data, link selection, freshness, retrieval performance, and many others. You will have the opportunity to work on large-scale, complex systems with cutting-edge cryptographic techniques, directly impacting Apple’s efforts to protect user privacy while enabling intelligent experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
BS, MS, Ph.D. in a related field, or equivalent experience
Strong coding skills
Strong background in computer science: algorithms and data structures
Experience with backend development, code performance tuning and testing
Experience with cloud services and Kubernetes
Understanding of performance optimization and scalable data processing.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with search infrastructure
Experience with cluster setup / management, monitoring and logging
Experience with cryptographic or privacy-preserving computation techniques (e.g., homomorphic encryption, secure computation, or related protocols).
Excellent interpersonal skills able to work independently as well as in a team
Experience with Information Retrieval, Large Scale Data-Mining and/or Machine learning
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $171,600 and $302,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
