Description

At American Express, our culture is built on a 175-year history of innovation, shared values and Leadership Behaviors, and an unwavering commitment to back our customers, communities, and colleagues. As part of Team Amex, you'll experience this powerful backing with comprehensive support for your holistic well-being and many opportunities to learn new skills, develop as a leader, and grow your career.

Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express.

Overview

American Express is committed to delivering the world’s best colleague digital experience. Our global colleagues and contractors are supported by an award-winning Digital Workplace team that enables communication, connection, and productivity—every day, everywhere. As we continue to grow and evolve, we are looking for a UX Researcher who brings a strong foundation in research execution along with the confidence to independently lead research initiatives and influence product decisions.

It is ideal for a practitioner who is comfortable owning end-to-end research on moderately complex initiatives, partnering closely with cross-functional teams, and translating insights into clear, actionable guidance—while continuing to deepen their craft and impact.

Who You Are

You are curious by nature and motivated by understanding human behavior. You enjoy uncovering user needs, pain points, and opportunities, and you find fulfillment in helping teams see problems through the eyes of their users. You are confident in applying a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods and know how to select the right approach for the problem at hand. You are comfortable working independently but value collaboration and shared learning with product managers, designers, developers, and fellow researchers.

If you enjoy balancing hands-on research execution with thoughtful consultation and storytelling, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

As part of our integrated colleague experience team, you will provide UX research and best-practice consulting services to product teams across the full product lifecycle—from early discovery and concept validation to iterative improvement of existing solutions. Your work will help shape digital experiences used by colleagues across American Express.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead end-to-end UX research efforts, including planning, participant recruitment, method selection, fielding, analysis, and synthesis

  • Apply a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods such as interviews, usability testing, surveys, journey mapping, and A/B testing to generate meaningful insights

  • Translate research findings into clear, actionable recommendations that inform product strategy and design decisions

  • Partner closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to ensure user insights are embedded throughout the development process

  • Effectively communicate research outcomes through presentations, reports, and informal discussions with stakeholders

  • Contribute to a culture of human-centered thinking by helping teams focus on solving real user problems, not just delivering features

  • Support research across a range of experiences, including homegrown tools, third-party products, and internal support services

What You Bring

  • Proven ability to independently lead end-to-end UX research projects

  • Experience conducting both qualitative and quantitative research, with a solid understanding of when and how to apply different methods

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage users, collaborate with teammates, and present insights to stakeholders with clarity and confidence

  • Skill in evaluating and reporting research findings, including an understanding of descriptive statistics and basic inferential concepts

  • Experience synthesizing complex data into clear narratives and actionable insights

  • Working knowledge of other UX disciplines, such as documenting user journeys, creating low-fidelity wireframes, and illustrating ideas through rough sketches

  • Familiarity with Design Thinking practices and collaborative, iterative workflows

  • Experience conducting remote research and using common UX research tools (e.g., survey and testing platforms)

  • Bachelor’s degree in User Experience, Human Factors, Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Growth Mindset

You are confident in your current skill set while remaining eager to learn, grow, and expand your impact. You seek feedback, refine your practice, and continuously develop your ability to influence outcomes through research.
