American Express’ Global Advertising & Brand Management (GABM) team is responsible for creating marketplace demand and driving commerce for American Express through differentiated and innovative branding, marketing and experiences. We have an ambitious goal: to be the most creative department in the Fortune 500 and we aim to deliver on that by doing work that is both creative and effective. Within GABM sits the Global Brand Content & Media team who is responsible for building best in class brand content across channels and audiences (including Amex’s internal creative agency, OnBrand), driving impact and innovation through global media and analytics, and delivering cultural and brand platforms that bring the Powerful Backing of American Express to life.

We’re seeking a Director of Global Media Brand Safety that will help our team accomplish the following:

  • Build out and lead a team responsible for operationalizing our paid Media Brand Safety strategy, governance and approval process across the Enterprise

  • Set the strategic vision for vetting and approving paid media plans, partnerships & activations, ensuring all enterprise activity adheres to our media brand safety guidelines

  • Enhance tracking system to monitor enterprise performance and share results & best practices

  • Create globally adaptable brand safety frameworks, processes & updated guidance to mitigate brand and reputational risk

  • Enhance operational controls while driving innovation in our approach to drive increased agility, performance & results

  • Act as an Enterprise Brand Safety Center of Excellence (COE), working closely with key business partners across GABM, BU marketers, and enterprise marketing functions, such as GCO, Compliance and Corporate Affairs & Communications, across all levels

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic planning: Lead a COE focused on standing up an E2E enterprise Media Brand Safety governance process. This includes formalizing & documenting a process, creation of socialization materials, documentation of guidelines and best practices, global process training for colleagues, ongoing tracking & capability enablement.

  • End-to-end program management: Ongoing brand safety governance, establishing approval forums/processes, tracking key metrics, and evolving digital solutions for documentation. Ensure all compliance assets and operational excellence policies are documented and completed.

  • Ongoing evaluation and tracking: Continue to evolve, review, digitize and scale media plan approval criteria and performance tracking

  • Stakeholder management: Coordinate and lead all internal (CA&C, GCO, Compliance, Audit, Risk) & external (agency) stakeholder collaboration. Partner closely with the Global Media team & agency to refine brand safety strategy across all paid channels (i.e., TV/CTV, audio, social, digital & out-of-home media)

  • Innovation: Identifying key areas for innovation and evolution leveraging internal & external technologies and processes

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years agency/brand experience in marketing/media, consulting and/or strategy

  • Familiarity and interest in digital, social & offline paid media channels

  • Understanding of the paid media, social and advertising landscape, emerging technologies and platforms, as well as brand risk and safety controls required to protect a global brand

  • Experience managing media agencies strongly preferred

  • Detail-orientated, with outstanding project management & accountancy skills (handling timelines, processes and media implementation needs)

  • Self-starter and problem solver who thrives in a rapidly changing, dynamic environment. Able to add clarity to and navigate ambiguous situations.

  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaborate effectively with others and build positive relationships across a large organization

  • Infectious curiosity and passionate about innovation, creative problem solving, and ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment

  • Proven ability to lead a high performing team, and drive meaningful career growth for team members

  • Outstanding presentation skills with the confidence to present to across various levels of leadership

  • Superb organizational and proven track record of managing and navigating wide-ranging organizations and processes and ability to balance multiple priorities

  • Strong team player with ability to build relationships and influence decisions to get things done

  • Passion for innovation, technology, and brand marketing

  • Bachelor’s degree

Qualifications

Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
