We’re looking for a manager to lead a lean team in developing robust software tools and infrastructure that power key insights across our organization.

In this role, you’ll lead a diverse team of engineers and global contractors serving as the driving force behind our data warehouse that powers data-driven decision-making for the Reliability Engineering department. By collaborating closely with cross-functional partners, you’ll deliver software critical to ensuring the reliability and performance of Apple hardware. Description

In this role you’ll manage, challenge, and coach a small, highly effective software team while giving tactical and strategic guidance, finding new opportunities within the Reliability department, proposing org-wide software solutions, and create new tools and platforms.

Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable, efficient, and reliable multi-terabyte scale data solutions across the Reliability Engineering department.
- Define and drive the strategy for the team’s big data architecture, enabling reliable analytics and insights at scale, with emphasis on performance, governance, and long-term sustainability.
- Build and integrate cutting-edge AI/ML solutions that drive decision-making, automate workflows, and surface novel insights from complex datasets.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress, roadmaps, and key deliverables.
- Cultivate strong partnerships across engineering, product, and business teams, acting as both a visionary and translator between software and non-software audiences.
- Collaborate with hardware and software teams on implementation details and schedule, negotiating outcomes that resolve timing, scope, trade-offs, and resource conflicts.
- Garner support from other teams and resources at Apple to achieve team goals.
Be a trusted and constructive partner, leading technical discussions on requirements, design, implementation, and validation.
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and operational excellence within the team.
- Tailor verbal and written communication to multidisciplinary audiences at all levels.
- Ensure compliance with Apple’s security, privacy, and operational standards throughout all engineering activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

  • 3+ years experience managing lean software engineering teams.

  • Experience leading several concurrent high-visibility cross-functional projects.

  • Demonstrated success managing remote employees and contractors distributed globally.

  • Deep expertise in developing and maintaining large-scale, complex data warehouses and ETL pipelines, with a focus on scalability and reliability.

  • Experience building software leveraging ML and GenAI to create innovative solutions to business needs, and enhance organizational and development workflows.

  • Experience with cloud environments such as AWS and GCP.

  • Experience with web technologies (Ruby on Rails and EmberJS preferred but not required).

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills to bridge software and non-software audiences.

  • Excellent prioritization skills to manage competing requests from multiple business units, aligning efforts with organizational strategy.

  • Proven track record collaborating with experts outside of your field such as mechanical engineers, materials scientists, and electrical engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field

  • Experience with ML-based anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and leveraging GenAI tools to unlock advanced insights.

  • Strong track record of aligning diverse teams behind data-driven innovation

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $190,700 and $329,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
