Job Description
The Marketing Director, Retina HCP Professional and Facility lead reports to the Head of Marketing, US Retina. The Director leads the Retina on-market innovation marketing team, including oversight of direct reports who will support the development of the go-to-market plan. They will serve as the brand champion for each Retina innovation program and work with the cross functional team to build the launch strategy and go to market plan. This key leadership role will set strategic direction and oversee the development and execution of comprehensive marketing plans targeting healthcare providers, ambulatory surgery centers, hospital outpatient surgical centers, healthcare decision makers, and practice administrators. The position requires deep knowledge of market drivers, competitive landscape, provider and stakeholder dynamics, and the ability to translate local business insights into actionable strategies for optimal brand performance. Responsibilities include building Commercial go to market plan, leading launch readiness reviews with AbbVie leadership, and working with external partners to design and implement the distribution and pricing models. The role demands proactive problem solving, creative solution development, and strict adherence to AbbVie policies and regulatory standards.
Key Job Responsibilities
Lead and mentor the Retina innovation marketing team, fostering a high-performance culture
Collaborate closely with cross function teams (sales, national accounts, market access, medical affairs, operations, finance, R&D, regulatory, compliance and legal teams) to ensure integrated execution of brand initiatives.
Partner with the lead Clinical Trainer, and clinical training team, to coordinate efforts between the clinical and sales teams and enable surgeon and site activation, including timing and cadence of key activities across each account
Partner with AbbVie trade, market access, and supply chain to establish distribution and contracting strategies and network to support seamless product supply network
Develop and implement multi-year marketing strategies aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements
Partner to help shape the product pipeline and ensure alignment with market needs, customer insights, and long-term commercial strategy
Oversee product launches, ensuring effective go-to-market plans and positioning for ASC and HOPD surgical environments
Manage market research, competitive analysis, and customer insights initiatives, especially focused on hospitals, outpatient surgical centers, and other key stakeholders
Build and maintain relationships with decision makers in Private Equity and non-Private Equity physician networks, IDNs, and Surgical facilities
Drive digital marketing, advertising, public relations, and event strategies targeting institutions, healthcare providers and patients active in hospital and outpatient surgery
Monitor and report on marketing KPIs and ROI with special focus on hospital and outpatient market segments
Partner with Strategic Communications lead to optimize company and brand presence at industry conferences, vendor partner events, and professional gatherings
Ensure compliance with medical device industry regulations and standards across all targeted environments
Qualifications
At least 5 years of pharmaceutical marketing, including 2+ years of Buy and Bill or Device is preferred
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business, Life Sciences, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to make effective presentations to internal and external customers, sales teams, and senior management
Proven track record of successful product launches and driving business growth in hospital and/or outpatient surgical markets
Strong understanding of healthcare regulatory environment, especially as it relates to surgical outpatient facilities
Strong background in both upstream and downstream marketing strategy.
Exceptional strategic and analytical skills
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and deliver results.
Is a self-starter, intellectually curious, and can change course rapidly where required
Willingness to travel up to 35%, attending national conferences, sales and marketing meetings and field visits
