American Express National Bank is American Express’ U.S. banking operation, representing more than 60% of the company’s revenues through consistent payments, financing, and savings products. Led by the Chief Operating Officer, AENB HQ drives the administration of programs and services provided by AENB, in partnership with Bank affiliates and executive officers. In addition, the team plays an enterprise role in driving greater consistency, effectiveness and efficiency across the first line via the AENB COO Office’s Strategic Planning, Control Management, Program Management and Governance functions.

Enterprise Control Management (ECM) within AENB operates as a Center of Excellence to serve as a central support hub for all first-line control management teams throughout the enterprise and be a key connection point with the second-line Global Risk & Compliance (GRC) teams.

The Vice President (VP) of Regulatory & Audit Exam Management will be responsible for the strategy and execution of the team’s work related to engagement with and deliverables to internal audit, second line of defense and regulators (in coordination with centralized regulatory engagement team for American Express). This role is responsible for continuously improving the ways in which the ECM team organizes and produces complete, accurate, and coordinated documentation for key stakeholders internally and externally. This role will oversee ECM’s internal and external exams and audits, action sustainable and timely closure of findings, with an auditor and regulator mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive coordination within ECM and across key stakeholders - of audits, second line testing, and regulatory examinations and ensure all requests are addressed in a timely manner with inputs from all related stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and business partners.

  • Own timely responses to requests and ensure that significant risks and issues are escalated to appropriate leadership in a timely manner.

  • Oversee and continuously enhance processes to ensure consistent, accurate and efficient exam responses across the business unit.

  • Ensure ECM team compliance with enterprise policies with regard to audit, second line, and regulator engagement.

  • Own preparation of materials for regulator interactions, as well as internal audit and second line of defense as appropriate. Prepare and present to ANEB leadership to keep leadership apprised of key regulatory and audit topics.

  • Act as leader and advisor for 1LOD teams on cross business unit’s exams, where appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8 Years experience in operational risk management (e.g., within Risk and/or Internal Audit function) and understands critical operational risk management lifecycle activities.

  • Extensive experience in regulatory and audit interactions and responses including high attention to detail across broad portfolios of risk management topics.

  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to clearly advise on progress, roadblocks, and successfully drive project progress, with a track record of developing end-to-end risk management processes.

  • Demonstrate core leadership abilities, which include setting the agenda for the team and enterprise, bringing others along by fostering collaboration and promoting diversity and inclusion, and doing it the right way through clear, candid, and courageous communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience as an internal or external auditor or regulatory examiner.

  • Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, written, and oral communication skills with a strong attention to detail.

  • Highly motivated self-starter with exceptional business writing skills.

  • Strong communicator who can effectively influence, multitask, and prioritize as business needs evolve with a high degree of comfort.

  • Ability to build strong relationships with all band levels and work effectively in a collaborative, multi-cultural, team environment.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple work streams under time constraints, respond quickly, manage deadlines, and manage changing priorities in a dynamic and very demanding environment while leading with limited direct authority.

  • Anticipate needs and act proactively.

  • Impeccable integrity with the ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Experience with technology and automation in the workspace.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
