Description

Apple’s Sensing, Power, and Haptics team, which supports hardware development across all product lines, is looking for a Mechanical Lab Technician who will be responsible for assisting in the fabrication, assembly/disassembly, and design of prototype parts and assemblies.

The ideal candidate will have hands on experience operating CNC mills, laser cutters, and 3D Printers, as well as performing mechanical assembly and disassembly tasks. This role engages with technologists, engineers and others in order to push the technology envelope. This role requires strong collaboration skills, a team-oriented attitude, and proficiency working within a job submission system to ensure efficient lab operations and timely project completion.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior lab technician experience and operate and maintain CNC mills to produce parts according to technical drawings and CAD files.

  • Prepare 2D files for operating laser cutters and digital cutters and manage 3D printing operations, including printer setup, material selection, print monitoring, and post-processing for FDM and SLA printers

  • Process and prioritize job submissions through our tracking system, ensuring timely completion and accurate documentation

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to shop safety and housekeeping

  • Physically capable of working in a shop environment and lifting up to 25 lbs

  • 4+ year minimum related experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Effective team collaboration and communication skills, including giving/receiving feedback

  • Proficiency with digital productivity tools (spreadsheets, presentations, workflow management)

  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to prioritize multiple projects efficiently

  • Strong customer service skills and ability to manage expectations

  • CNC mill setup and operation with Datron controllers

  • Experience with metrology equipment operation including optical microscopes (OM), coordinate measuring machines (CMM), optical measuring machines (OMM), and laser scanners

  • Electrical rework experience (coarse and fine pitch soldering)

  • Product repair and assembly experience with Apple or equivalent consumer electronics

  • Familiarity with handling basic chemical hazards (lubricants, coolant, solvents, paint, 3D print resin)

  • Technical AS/BS preferred, or equivalent work experience
