We are looking for an Electronic Systems Product Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Seymour, IN location.

Job summary

This Electronic Systems position would focus on existing Cummins engine programs often referred to as Current Product Support by tailoring electronic calibrations within the Electronic Control Module to meet new or changing specifications including Verification & Validation Testing with supporting documentation.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Enhancing Product Performance through Mechatronic Integration You'll design and apply electronic hardware and control systems that precisely measure and regulate product behavior, directly improving performance, reliability, and efficiency in Cummins' mechatronic systems.

  • Optimizing Machine Integration for Customer Value By combining subsystems into cohesive, high-performing machines, you'll ensure that customer requirements are met or exceeded using Cummins' best practices, tools, and installation standards.

  • Driving Design Decisions with Simulation and Analysis Your use of modeling and simulation tools will influence early design choices, helping teams predict and validate system behavior before physical prototypes, saving time and cost.

  • Solving Complex Product Issues with Root Cause Analysis You'll lead structured problem-solving efforts, identifying root causes and implementing robust, data-driven solutions that protect customers and prevent recurrence.

  • Validating Product Systems to Ensure Reliability You'll develop and manage validation plans that assess system risks and verify that products meet requirements through simulation, testing, and analysis—ensuring quality and compliance.

  • Translating Stakeholder Needs into Engineering Requirements Your work in systems requirements engineering will ensure that customer and stakeholder expectations are clearly defined, traceable, and achievable throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Applying Systems Thinking to Improve Product Architecture You'll analyze system interactions and boundaries to optimize design, predict behavior, and propose modifications that enhance overall system performance and lifecycle value.

  • Fostering Collaboration and Communication Across Teams By building strong networks and communicating effectively across disciplines, you'll align diverse teams, accelerate decision-making, and drive results in complex, cross-functional environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Advanced Problem-Solving Skills: Effectively investigate and resolve complex electronic application and systems issues by understanding root causes and implementing robust solutions.

  • Proficiency in Development Tools and Processes: Apply and continuously improve processes such as system specification, modeling, simulation, calibration, and DVP&R to ensure high-quality system performance.

  • Strong Decision-Making in System Design: Make informed decisions in electronic and electrical system design, calibration, and testing that directly impact product quality and functionality.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Gather and integrate input from customers, engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing to guide product decisions and ensure alignment with stakeholder needs.

  • Leadership in Technical Execution: Lead smaller-scale projects or own complex components with full accountability, even in ambiguous situations, while mentoring less-experienced engineers.

  • Quality Assurance and Peer Review: Review and guide the work of junior developers and testers to ensure designs are efficient, reusable, and robust.

  • Process Improvement and Knowledge Sharing: Drive improvements in engineering processes and tools, and support knowledge transfer within the team to build collective capability.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Operate as a recognized specialist in your discipline, providing technical direction and influencing project outcomes through deep domain knowledge.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.

  • Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

This Electronic Systems position would focus on existing Cummins engine programs often referred to as Current Product Support by tailoring electronic calibrations within the Electronic Control Module to meet new or changing specifications including Verification & Validation Testing with supporting documentation.

Primary knowledge and skill areas the employee should be expected to develop or refine during this RePower Returnship:

  • Knowledge of VPCR (Value Package Change Request) Processes.

  • Calibration Integration, Tuning, and Testing.

  • Electronics Systems knowledge and Critical Thinking.

  • Issue Resolution/Troubleshooting.

  • Technical documentation.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this role is $8,900/month (subject to applicable withholdings), plus benefits such as health and wellness while in the returnship program.
