Role Number: 200641521-3956

Summary

The Apple Cloud Networking team builds and operates software-defined network platforms that work at scale to deliver a multi-cloud network and security with a global footprint. We are a fast-moving team at the forefront of crafting Apple’s hybrid cloud network infrastructure, which fuels Apple’s services, including iCloud, iTunes, Siri, and Maps.

We are seeking a seasoned, visionary Engineering Manager to lead and expand a diverse team of highly skilled engineers focused on advancing observability, monitoring, and telemetry capabilities for Apple's critical cloud networking infrastructure. In this role, you will collaborate with engineering teams across Apple to deliver the foundational insights and tools that enable operational excellence, proactive issue detection, and performance optimization for our global services.

Description

As a key leader, you will define and drive the vision and strategy for our observability & telemetry solutions. You will be responsible for building, scaling, and nurturing a cohesive, high-performing team that is passionate about providing deep visibility into complex systems, driving innovation in monitoring tools, ensuring data quality, and enabling impact at scale.

Your role will involve forging strong cross-functional partnerships to align with stakeholders and ensure that our observability solutions meet evolving business and technical needs. This includes upholding the highest standards of data integrity, system reliability, and actionable insights to diagnose, troubleshoot, and optimize our cloud networking environment.

We are looking for an engineering leader who is deeply passionate about building and operating highly scalable, fault-tolerant observability platforms and data pipelines that support one of the world’s largest and most complex infrastructures, turning raw data into critical operational intelligence.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software development.

  • 6+ years of experience in a technical leadership position, including responsibilities for people management.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise with the ability to engage in deep technical discussions to support sound decision-making in the observability and monitoring domain.

  • Proven track record in designing and building highly scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems, ideally within an observability or data pipeline context.

  • Solid experience with observability principles, telemetry data (metrics, logs, traces), and monitoring tools.

  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and software-defined networking (SDN), with a deep appreciation for how to effectively observe and monitor these complex systems.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Broad experience in designing and developing robust architectures for data collection, processing, or visualization.

  • Expert knowledge of modern observability practices.

  • Deep knowledge of logs, metrics, traces, and alerts, and how to use this data to help developers and operators make quick decisions.

  • Experience with container deployment and orchestration technologies at scale, including service discovery, deployments, monitoring, and load balancing
