How will you make an impact in this role?
Global Compliance and Ethics (GCE) is responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust compliance program that ensures American Express is adhering to laws, regulations, and internal policies while fostering a culture of integrity and effective second line independent Compliance oversight.
The Senior Manager supports the Bank’s and its Affiliates’ compliance risk management activities. This position will be critical to executing AENB Compliance priorities through key partnerships with second line Affiliate Business Compliance Officers and effective challenge of first line stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in the complex regulatory environment affecting financial services and understand how to measure compliance risk in the business effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the maintenance of a sound, effective AENB Compliance Program appropriate for the size and complexity of the Bank's business practices and objectives.
Develop and execute monitoring activities aligned to AENB Compliance to ensure the Line of Business is effectively managing compliance risk.
Provide support for Bank governance strategic oversight of standards of compliance risk management activities, including the implementation of the Bank’s Compliance Risk Management Framework, quality assurance, and risk appetite statements, new product approvals, intercompany arrangements and merger & acquisition activity.
Proactively manage compliance risk by informing leaders of areas in the first and second line of the status of risk remediation, emerging risk, and approaches to improve necessary controls and practices as appropriate.
Develop and review Bank compliance-related policies and procedures, ensuring they meet regulatory expectations and are effectively communicated and implemented across the organization.
Assist in the preparation of executive reports and risk summaries for governance committees.
Develop and maintain strong strategic relationships across Risk Management teams and Line of Business Compliance Officer teams, in support of an aligned and effective control and compliance framework.
Support Line of Business and Risk efforts to develop metrics for Affiliates that impact the Bank, which includes engagement with Control teams and multiple risk partners.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree required
5–7 years or more of progressive and demonstrated compliance or risk management experience in the financial services industry, as well as experience in legal entity governance.
Knowledge of all regulatory bodies that influence Bank policies within the United States.Sound experience in managing activity in U.S. lending, compliance, banking, regulatory examination or audit required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing and delivering reports, presentations, and policy documents.
Deep understanding of how operational and compliance risk is identified, assessed, measured, monitored, tested, and reported.
Thorough regulatory knowledge of Bank Administration, Consumer Protection and Lending laws, as well as Regulation O, Regulation W, and Community Reinvestment Act regulations and requirements.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with people at all levels of the organization.
Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance business objectives with regulatory requirements.
Excellent project management and organizational skill, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Ability to both work independently and collaboratively with team-members and to navigate a complex organization
Advanced analytics, PowerPoint and excel skills with an ability to learn new tools quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or JD preferred.
Experience supporting enterprise programs or control testing is preferred.
Advanced reporting skills such as: SQL, PL/SQL, T SQL

Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits
