Description

APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Design, develop, and debug software for multimedia playback using C/Objective-C and Swift. Analyze software performance problems and implement optimizations by leveraging best practices in memory power management. Design and develop APIs for third-party developers. Maintain and document API surface. Interact with industry partners to ensure Apple’s competitiveness is maintained. Develop new features for media systems, leveraging Machine Learning to create innovative user experiences and enhance system capabilities. Develop unit tests, contribute towards code-review and uphold great code-quality, participating and collaborating with peers in software design reviews. Perform multithreaded programming and programming in real-time systems. Mentor junior talent in the team including interns. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 - $220,900/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's Degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or related field

• Experience and/or education must include:

• Object-oriented programming using C, Objective-C, and Swift to develop new features in the AVFoundation framework, internal data reporting system daemons, and processes that run ML workflows.

• Using knowledge of computer systems, operating systems, and software architecture principles to develop and design new APIs, maintain systems that perform critical tasks during playback like network prediction, data reporting, and run inference tasks from ML models.

• Experience with multi-process and multi-threaded programming to improve streaming performance, design multithreaded systems used in foundational streaming systems, and multitenant data reporting systems.

• Experience in performance and memory optimization (Xcode Developer tools like leaks, CPU trace, etc., experience with crash logs and memgraphs) to reduce overall CPU and memory usage during critical ML inference tasks and optimize background activity for data reporting.

• Debugging software using Xcode to triage and reproduce client issues.

• Using machine learning frameworks like PyTorch, Keras, CoreML, and CreateML to develop real-time on-device network prediction models and on-device real-time audio transcription services used to power core streaming features.

• Understanding of machine learning models (like Random Forest, Linear Regression, Neural Networks) to create / tweak / fix models for core algorithms that power automatic bitrate selection for streaming use-cases.
