How will you make an impact in this role?
Corporate Development executes strategically relevant and financially sound transactions for American Express, which enhance profitability, supplement business growth, and optimize the Company’s use of capital. The Corporate Development team is composed of American Express Ventures, the group that sources and executes strategic investments, the M&A team which is responsible for strategy development, negotiations and execution for inorganic transactions (acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures), and the Integration team responsible for integrating acquired assets and separating assets as part of strategic acquisitions and divestures.
The Director will be a leader in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group tasked with supporting American Express's growth and profitability through M&A transactions. This position presents opportunities to work in close consultation with the various American Express business units and functional teams.
Responsibilities:
Work with business units to prioritize strategic objectives including development of strategic analyses to inform, support or enhance AXP’s inorganic growth strategy
Assist in leading deal teams to evaluate potential transactions and business cases from strategic, operational and financial perspectives.
Lead and oversee the development of key analyses (e.g., valuation, financial impact, etc.) with detailed financial models
Support negotiations while working closely with internal and external partners to structure and execute transactions
Ownership of specific pieces of transactions including day-to-day execution and managing cross-functional teams to ensure deliverables meet internal and external deadlines
Ownership and preparation of specific transaction evaluation and review materials and responsibility to communicate recommendations to Senior Management
Establish best practices, standardize processes and methodologies for approaching M&A and partnership transactions
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 4-7 years previous experience. Investment banking, private equity, venture capital or corporate development experience preferred.
Extremely strong financial, analytical and valuation skills, including the ability to read and interpret financial statements and build financial models. Full understanding of enterprise valuation techniques.
High degree of strategic and analytical capability, including the ability to analyze industry trends in digital, payments and ecommerce.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must possess strong business acumen, collaboration and influencing skills as well as ability to drive results.
Excellent project management skills.
In depth knowledge of AXP businesses a plus.
MBA or CPA or similar direct business experience strongly preferred.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
