How will you make an impact in this role?

The American Express Global Financial Crimes Compliance (GFCC) function provides second-line policy, framework, oversight, and control solutions to meet the Company’s legal, regulatory and risk management mandates in connection with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Terrorism Financing (CTF), Sanctions and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC). The GFCC portfolio comprises all aspects of the Company’s first and second-line financial crime risk management (FCRM) activities, including all lines of businesses in the United States and both proprietary and non-proprietary global markets.

Reporting to the Vice President, Governance (Committee and Issues Oversight), the Director of Regulatory Exam Management leads the coordination and execution of US regulatory examinations impacting the GFCC program. This role serves as a key liaison between GFCC, first-line partners, and regulatory supervisors, ensuring examinations are well-managed, responses are accurate and timely, and outcomes are appropriately risk-assessed. This role also supports GFCC response to regulatory requests in all markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary GFCC point of contact for US-based financial crime–related regulatory examinations.

  • Lead examination planning, coordination, and execution across GFCC and first-line partners.

  • Review and challenge examination findings to ensure factual accuracy, appropriate risk assessment, and alignment with regulatory expectations.

  • Management of the annual DFS-504 certification process

  • Partner with Issues Management to support remediation, validation, and closure of exam findings.

  • Prepare senior management for regulatory interactions through briefings and executive summaries.

  • Manage regulatory information requests, walkthroughs, and meetings to ensure accurate, timely, and consistent responses.

  • Monitor regulatory developments to inform exam readiness and governance priorities.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with regulatory supervisors and internal stakeholders.

  • Partner with international GFCC teams to support regulatory response in all markets.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in regulatory exam management, BSA-AML compliance, or financial crime risk.

  • Strong knowledge of BSA requirements and FFIEC examination procedures.

  • Experience engaging directly with regulators preferred.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
