American Express’ Global Commercial Services (GCS) business offers a wide range of card and payment programs, expense management tools, consulting services, business financing and cross-border payments solutions to small businesses, mid-sized companies and large corporations around the world.
ithin GCS, the Global and US Large Enterprise segment (G&L) supports more than 5,000 large enterprises through offering industry-leading T&E program management (e.g. corporate travel cards, central billing solutions) and a growing set of business-to-business payment solutions (enabling process control, cash flow management and revenue generation from AP).
The Strategy & Transformation (S&T) team designs and delivers G&L strategic imperatives to meet the current and future needs of customers, shareholders, colleagues, and regulators. This is accomplished through a combination of strategy, governance, and program management teams that sit within the G&L business to drive sustainable growth.
The role of VP, Governance within the Strategy & Transformation leadership team plays a critical role in establishing and implementing policies, tools & procedures that enable the field to Do It the Right Way while ensuring appropriate oversight and controls to manage Risk. At its core, this role ensures that the G&L organization provides a best-in-class sales and account management experience that adheres to our AXP values and sales policies in an ever-evolving Risk landscape. This includes overseeing overall quality and compliance with applicable laws/ regulations, internal business conduct policies within American Express, and leading the design of evolving risk management models in partnership with Commercial Business Enablement, Control Management, and Field teams. The Governance team within S&T is comprised of both US based and international colleagues to ensure a global, future-proofed culture of compliance to embed Doing it the Right Way at the forefront of all activities. The VP of Governance will also play a role in leading the governance needs of the strategies the S&T team builds and commissions in cross-functional strategy development and implementation.
Key responsibilities include:
Partner with Control Management (CM, formerly Operational Excellence), Line of Business Compliance Officers, General Counsel’s Office, Internal Audit, and other key partners to monitor and assess end-to-end compliance and sales effectiveness in Global & Large
Act as main point of contact for supporting Control Management, Field and critical compliance partners with reviews, audits, and related remediation and action plans
Leading role in the design and implementation of further Risk Management programs, tools, and processes for G&L as needs and frameworks evolve
Assist with remediation of compliance gaps across G&L – whether self-identified or via gaps identified by compliance partners
Lead team that partners with G&L leaders to review and remediate sales defects and misconducts. Continuously review to identify common errors and design training/ resources for G&L colleagues to drive down error rates. Communicate risks to Senior Leadership, as needed.
Develop and partner to evolve sales practice guidelines, protocols, training and resources to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness business conduct as well as customer and colleague experience. This may involve training, designing new processes, or identifying and addressing gaps that emerge
Own change management needs for business conduct initiatives and develop strategies to enable Field teams to implement change activities effectively.
Advocate for colleagues when they have questions about business self-testing process or outcomes. This includes managing dispute and review process for colleagues identified through Business Self Testing (BST), Signings Quality Control process, or other monitoring programs conducted by 1st Line
Act as key point of contact for updated policies and the roll-out of policies to the team (in partnership with Control Management and Commercial Business Enablement)
Key Attributes for Success in this Role
The ideal candidate will be a leader of the highest level of integrity, with experience working with Sales and Account Development teams and driving compliance initiatives, possessing outstanding business partner and process management skills
Strategic thinker with ability to ensure effective implementation of complex strategies
Proven analytical understanding; with ability to synthesize vast amounts of data into a cohesive message and strategy
Effective oral and written communications skills, including experience presenting to senior level, diverse audiences with distinct perspectives
Significant matrix leadership, collaboration and influencing skills
Experience working with Compliance-related initiatives and familiar with processes across three lines of defense
Proven experience in change management, ability to set priorities and manage tasks to drive results within short time frame while executing longer-term strategy with a sense of proactive understanding of partner needs
Demonstrated experience building trust and followership
Ability to handle sensitive issues with complete confidentiality
External regulatory experience a plus
Qualifications
Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
