Job Description

Purpose

The Manager, PSS Midstream Operations, will work under the leadership of the Associate Director, PSS Midstream Operations, overseeing a team dedicated to supporting the Procurement Shared Services (PSS) team at AbbVie. This role is crucial in ensuring operational excellence and process transformation within the procurement function and the broader organization.

The primary function of Procurement is to economically and efficiently purchase goods and services aligned with AbbVie's policies and objectives while maintaining strict standards of business ethics and integrity. The Manager, PSS Midstream Operations is responsible for effectively managing suppliers from a transactional standpoint and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction. This role involves close collaboration with Site management and employees.

Key responsibilities include negotiating, developing, and implementing transactional agreements that maximize value and support client initiatives, as well as standardizing materials, services, and suppliers. The Manager, PSS Midstream Operations is authorized to commit company funds and will address known or anticipated problems related to value, quality, feasibility, and specifications in the procurement of goods and services. This position also contributes to process efficiencies and other value-added activities to support customer needs and expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate strategies across Commercial & Indirect Procurement Supplier Management to enhance Procure-to-Pay processes, improving customer experience and driving efficiency.

  • Lead cross-functional projects to identify and implement opportunities for reduced cycle time and increased productivity, while effectively managing various request queues including Category Queue Aging.

  • Act as a subject matter expert across all categories within the Commercial & Indirect Procurement Supplier Management Team, providing guidance on processes and Category Team strategies.

  • Develop, lead, and coach a team of Procurement professionals, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and stakeholder education.

  • Meet regularly with internal customers and support functions to ensure satisfaction and provide monthly updates on performance and process improvements.

  • Monitor validation errors and proactively address process gaps, utilizing data from comprehensive dashboard reporting to drive performance improvements and guide stakeholders.

  • Understand and guide requestors through the organization's approved buying channels and contracting policies, ensuring efficient management of Strategy-to-Pay intake contract requests within established metrics.

  • Effectively develop and negotiate confidentiality agreements, standalone contracts, and Statements of Work, ensuring alignment with category strategies and applicable financial authorizations.

  • Drive transition management during procurement transformation, aligning team operations with new processes and stages of go-live, while educating stakeholders and identifying process improvement opportunities.

  • Manage escalation processes, provide prompt issue resolution, and maintain clear stakeholder communication to support seamless transitions and achieve a new steady state in procurement operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related discipline or 4 years of equivalent work experience.

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in a purchasing agent / buyer role, preferably, but not limited to Pharmaceutical.

  • Analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Written and verbal skills enabling effective communication with all levels of management. Ability to develop and grow relationships with stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of purchasing policy. Strong Contract negotiations experience.

  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload across multiple projects.

  • CPM certification desired or equivalent preferred.

  • Experience with SAP (SRM, ECC), e-Sourcing and contract management tools preferred, but not required.

  • Self-motivated with great follow-up skills and be able to work independently.

  • People management experience.
