We are seeking a Senior Standards Counsel with great judgement and communication skills, and who is a quick learning self-starter. In this role, you will lead a variety of legal matters pertaining to participation in technical standards organizations, consortia, and special interest groups. You will partner with the business to achieve objectives and work closely with internal legal and business partners to develop and implement strategies, participate in external governance and policy committees and develop governance and IPR policies.
Description
As a Senior Standards Counsel in Apple's in-house legal team, you will manage legal policy, processes and matters related to participation in technical standards organizations, consortia, and special interest groups. You will work closely with internal legal and business stakeholders, partner with clients to achieve standardization objectives; implement policy and processes related to contribution to and participation in standards bodies; educate business organizations on standards-related legal issues; participate in standards bodies’ governance and policy committees; draft agreements and policies; and manage compliance with legal obligations associated with participation in standards bodies.
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years experience (either at a major law firm and/or in-house) providing legal advice related to intellectual property (patent development, transactions, or litigation) or antitrust.
Insight and knowledge in the operation and intellectual property policies of standards bodies, as well as direct experience in the development and/or revision of standards’ bodies’ intellectual property policies or agreements
JD or equivalent and admission to at least one US state bar; USPTO Registration or degree in engineering, computer science is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to advise all types and levels of business, legal and engineering clients effectively. A proven ability to handle a high level of client interaction including managing expectations and keeping clients informed on status is highly desirable.
Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, advocacy and negotiation skills.
Highly motivated and independent self-starter; comfortable learning new legal areas and skills.
Excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Excellent work ethic and collaborative skills.
Sound judgement, strong interpersonal & organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects at a time are required. An ability to manage projects with deadlines that are dependent on lateral influence is essential. Demonstrated project management skills are desirable.
Proactive and able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deliver timely and thoughtful solutions.
Experience with antitrust, international legal and regulatory compliance, privacy, and/or open source issues.
Computer Science, Engineering or other technical degree a plus.
USPTO registration and experience analyzing patents is a plus.
