Description
As an Advanced Sensing and Controls Engineering Program Manager (EPM) within Apple’s Home team, you will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of cutting-edge sensing and controls initiatives. This includes driving programs from concept and modeling, through proof-of-concept demonstrations, system architecture definition, verification and validation, and optimization for scalability. Your scope will span both controls development and advanced sensing, partnering with engineering teams to develop controls algorithms, sensor fusion algorithms, analyze and interpret multi-modality datasets, and optimize sensor constellations & control loops for performance, robustness, and efficiency. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across hardware, software, and infrastructure, as well as with other Apple organizations and external suppliers, to ensure technical excellence and timely delivery. You will be responsible for managing and prioritizing risks, championing Agile software development practices, and ensuring clear, consistent communication with all stakeholders across the organization.
Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end program execution, defining scope, schedules, milestones, and budgets
Drive sensing-related workstreams, including:
Development and integration of sensor fusion algorithms
Sensor data analysis and interpretation to guide system performance improvements
Optimization of sensor constellation configurations for coverage, redundancy, and accuracy
Drive controls-related workstreams from requirements definition through validation and scaling
Identify, prioritize, and mitigate project risks and dependencies
Translate high-level system requirements into detailed software, sensing, and control specifications
Lead technical design reviews, ensuring solutions meet performance, reliability, and safety targets
Communicate program status, critical issues, and risk mitigation strategies to leadership and stakeholders
Establish and refine development processes, test strategies, and validation plans for sensing and controls domains
Integrate supplier and vendor deliverables into the overall program plan
Minimum Qualifications
BS engineering degree required in mechatronics, systems engineering, software engineering, sensing, controls or related engineering fields
Several years of project management experience
Proven track record managing complex engineering programs from concept through delivery
Enjoys navigating ambiguous situations, leveraging informed assumptions and structured validation paths to bring clarity and drive decisive progress
Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Self-starter with strong problem-solving abilities, creative thinking, and sound judgment
Deep understanding of product development lifecycles and processes
Identify risks, Understand technical issues & complex design trade-offs. Drive to closure by bringing together key stakeholders; facilitating decision-making to meet overall project objectives
Experience and familiarity with consumer electronic industry
Preferred Qualifications
Strong understanding of control systems design, implementation, and optimization
Experience with sensor fusion, signal processing, or multi-modal data analysis
Highly disciplined in workflow, process, and staying organized on priority tasks
Superior attention to detail with a strong commitment to rigor and excellence
Self motivated and proactive with creative and critical thinking capabilities
Understands and deals well with rapid development cycles and constant change; remains flexible and calm in the face of uncertainty
Ability to travel internationally to support builds
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $172,100 and $305,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
