We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Product Manager to focus specifically on improving and rapidly growing our user reporting mechanisms across Apple's ecosystem. This role is essential in our fight against online safety harms, particularly those targeting children, including preventing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), sextortion, and other forms of abuse.
The Trust and Safety team spans strategy, policy, safety analysis, engineering, operations, and research, while supporting all parts of the Apple ecosystem. We are looking for a collaborative product manager to work with our cross-functional teams to define and implement plans and requirements that continually improve our products. The ideal candidate has a passion for building great products, an interest in trust and safety issues, and a belief that multi-disciplinary collaborative product development is critical for building great user experiences. This product manager should be an excellent communicator experienced in ensuring that user safety and business goals are met. This role will involve working on systems that support user safety such as user reporting in various Apple products.
Description
This role will:
- Lead the product strategy and roadmap for user reporting features across Apple products, with a specific focus on enabling users to effectively report content and behavior related to online safety harms, including CSAM, sextortion, grooming, and other forms of child exploitation.
- Collaborate with a sophisticated set of partners to define and implement plans and roadmaps.
- Focus on a diversity of trust and safety domains, including child and interpersonal safety.
- Ensure the project vision, customer, and business goals are translated into requirements that the project team understands and meets.
- Work with safety analysts, legal, government affairs, policy, product managers on other teams, design, and engineering to identify safety opportunities, risks, and solutions.
- Deeply understand the evolving landscape of online safety threats, particularly those targeting children, and translate this understanding into actionable product requirements.
- Develop and maintain a solid understanding of best practices in user reporting design and implementation, ensuring that our reporting mechanisms are accessible, effective, and trauma-informed.
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure that reported content is routed to the appropriate teams for review and action, and that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect victims and prevent further harm.
- Define and manage the product roadmap for backend systems supporting user reports, including review workflows, decisioning tools, policy management systems, and reporting infrastructure.
- Develop and implement metrics to measure the efficiency of user reporting mechanisms, including report volume, response times, accuracy of decisions, and impact on online safety outcomes.
- Work with legal and government affairs on regulatory initiatives.
- Collaborate with other Trust and Safety teams to build and evolve shared trust and safety services.
- Stay abreast of new technologies and trends in online safety, and find opportunities to use these technologies to improve our user reporting capabilities.
- Possess a strong operational mindset and understand the opportunities and challenges in scaling an effective user reporting operation worldwide, including considerations for localization, cultural nuances, and varying legal frameworks.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a product management role
Ability to launch products and features at scale.
Experience working collaboratively to balance customer, business, operational, legal, and technology perspectives.
Ability to build clear presentations and communicate concepts effectively.
Proven passion for online safety and a solid understanding of the challenges involved in protecting users from harm.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with regulatory work.
Familiarity with AI.
Interested in addressing interpersonal and child safety.
Interest in policy development.
Experience with products and features that drive complex operational needs.
Experience working on user reporting systems or other safety-related products.
Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to online safety, including child protection laws.
Understanding of trauma-informed design principles.
Experience managing backend systems and workflows for content moderation or user safety operations.
Experience with internationalization and localization of products and services.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $141,800 and $258,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
