The Global Advertising and Brand Management (GABM) organization has a mission to create marketplace demand and drive commerce for American Express through differentiated and innovative products, partnerships, marketing, and customer experiences.

Role:

The Brand Design Strategy team is responsible for setting the vision for how the American Express brand is expressed through design decisions across the enterprise, drawing upon the brand’s strategic principles, and ultimately building brand value. They are responsible for defining the Brand Identity for American Express and partnering with a myriad of stakeholders to translate the brand across channels, products, and experiences.

The Senior Manager, Visual Identity & Digital Design Strategy will lead strategic design initiatives to evolve and refine Amex’s visual identity systems across digital journeys, driving compelling, on-brand design solutions that generate exceptional UI and digital marketing experiences. In close partnership with Enterprise Digital Design and Research teams, this individual will be responsible for understanding business challenges across the digital ecosystem, identifying in-house or external agency solutions, and ultimately provide guidance that leads to exceptional digital design work that propels the brand forward.

Responsibilities:

This person will proactively identify opportunities to evolve Amex brand elements while balancing enterprise and business unit priorities to optimize the end user experience. They will collaborate directly with a cross-functional team of stakeholders, including creative and brand strategists, business unit partners, in-house creative teams, and external agency partners to develop and refine brand principles and guidance, ensuring connectivity and consistency across the enterprise brand experience.

  • Partner directly with our digital Design System and product teams to ensure brand VI is represented effectively in our digital ecosystem

  • Solicit feedback on gaps in our VI across our digital channels from senior designers and design leadership to ensure evolution is grounded in real world use

  • Own and evolve key elements of digital brand VI such as our iconography, illustration, and motion principles, among others

  • Identify where external expertise is required and engage with and oversee agencies where appropriate

  • Present strategic design vision to leadership stakeholders across marketing, product, and design to gain alignment for VI evolution

  • Deliver appropriate tools and documentation to ensure easy adoption and use by designers and content creators across the enterprise

  • Own communication strategy of digital VI to ensure adoption and clarity around updates and timelines

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience bringing brands to life in digital ecosystems, including digital experience design, graphic design, digital design strategy, branding or similar discipline. Agency and/or corporate experience preferred.

  • Proven ability to lead digital design strategy initiatives and deliver best-in-class design systems, including core branding elements such as logos, typography, color, illustration, animation, photography, and more.

  • Strategic thinker with strong knowledge of evolving UX and UI design principles and branding system best practices to drive relevancy across experience journeys.

  • Ability to clearly communicate design strategies and solutions – both verbally and visually – to internal and external stakeholders with varying degrees of brand, design, and digital knowledge.

  • Ability to drive multiple complex workstreams forward simultaneously, with internal and external creative teams.

  • Adept at writing and reviewing creative briefs, developing and collaborating on statements of work, and managing projects to budget and timing requirements.

  • Ability to define and track KPIs to measure the impact of visual identity standards and identify improvement opportunities

  • Passionate, curious, and knowledgeable about branding, art, design, and digital creative.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits
