Summary
The iPhone Hardware Engineering team is seeking an experienced EMI Manager to lead our electromagnetic interference engineering team supporting iPhone and AirPods products. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both technical depth and people management skills. The ideal candidate will work with internal multi-functional teams and external partners to drive electromagnetic simulation, debug complex coexistence issues, and improve overall system performance. You will lead a team of EMI engineers performing a broad range of FEA simulations including high-frequency RF coexistence, low-frequency magnetic simulations, and multiphysics (electrochemical) modeling for mobile systems design.
Description
Lead and develop a team of EMI engineers supporting iPhone and AirPods product development
Drive characterization and debug of results-oriented system level co-existence/RFI Desense issues
Partner with multi-functional teams to define design requirements for improved EM performance
Oversee 3D-EM and circuit modeling and simulations across the frequency and time domains.
Ability to design and analyze power delivery networks including modeling of dc-dc converters, and their potential for EMI
Simulation and analysis of system high-speed circuits for signal integrity and their potential for EMI
Lead design feasibility studies, design testing and verification, and system bring up activities.
Provide design guideline and support to system architecture design, board layout, product bring up, debug, validation, and factory builds.
Develop and improve design methodologies to achieve minimal EMI
Build strong partnerships with cross-functional teams and external simulation partners
Minimum Qualifications
BS + 10 years, including 3+ years in a leadership or management role
Proven experience managing and developing a team of engineers with demonstrated leadership success
Strong academic background in EM theory and coupling mechanisms.
Hands-on experience in EM and circuit simulation tools: Ansys HFSS/Maxwell/SIWave, CST, ADS/Spice/Spectre, Cadence/Sigrity
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to relate electrical performance to physical layout and drive design decisions
Deep experience in 3D EM simulations for debugging and mitigating complex EM coexistence issues
Hands-on experience in hardware board-level testing, validation, and with lab equipment (near field scanning, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, scopes)
Knowledge of Power and Signal integrity
Knowledge of switching DC-DC converters
Experience with scripting languages (Python, …)
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Track record of mentoring and developing technical talent
