How will you make an impact in this role?
The Manager, Commercial Credit Review, will perform the Commercial Credit Review function within the third line of defense at American Express – reporting to the Director of Commercial Credit Review. This position is responsible for delivering end-to-end credit review activities for all commercial portfolios and products. It requires a balance of strong commercial credit acumen, operational execution, and adherence to regulatory expectations for independent credit review functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Execute credit file reviews using defined sampling, scoping, and review methodologies
Analyze borrower financial condition, repayment capacity, collateral coverage, and other key credit risk factors
Evaluate the appropriateness and timeliness of internal risk ratings and credit approvals
Test adherence to credit policies, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements
Document workpapers clearly and thoroughly, with sufficient support for findings and conclusions
Identify and escalate potential credit weaknesses, process gaps, or rating inconsistencies
Participate in team calibration meetings to ensure consistency of assessment standards and conclusions
Maintain professional skepticism and independence throughout the review process
Contribute to issue write-ups and evidence gathering for findings
Assist with data collection, trend analysis, and dashboard support as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial credit risk management, commercial lending, credit review, audit, or other related function.
Strong familiarity with credit analysis, financial statement analysis, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory requirements, particularly in commercial lending.
Comprehensive understanding of industry regulations and best practices in commercial lending and credit risk management.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make sound decisions.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits
