Description

John Tillman Company, a division of Bunzl, is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to work on-site in Cerritos, CA. The John Tillman Company was founded in 1928 and is the leading manufacturer and supplier of welding protective products in the United States. The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for managing month-end processes, including preparation or review of journal entries and account reconciliations, analysis of financial results and balances, and assistance with financial statement preparation and reporting. The Senior Staff Accountant will also be responsible for managing internal and external audits, performing budget calculations and analysis, and identifying and implementing process improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of month-end close process, including review or preparation of reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and related journal entries

  • Analysis of inventory obsolescence and accounts receivable agings and recommendation changes to reserves

  • Balance sheet and Profit and Loss variance analysis and explanation for variances

  • Calculation and reporting of KPIs and metrics related to AP Days, AR Days, Inventory Turns, Gross Margin, PBIT, and recommendation of additional metrics for internal and external reporting and management use

  • Familiarity with and analysis of landed costs including customs and other costs and analysis of volumes and gross margins to improve profitability

  • Determine needed process improvements and work with teams to implement same

  • Develop SOPs to document accounting procedures

  • Initiate and oversee annual fixed asset audit, match to records, and identify adjustments, as needed

  • Review sales rep commission calculations

  • Review customer rebate calculations; update and ensure completeness of rebate contract records

  • Oversee annual physical inventory and weekly cycle counts; work with Finance and Warehouse teams to improve physical count results and counting processes

  • Prepare periodic and ad-hoc corporate financial submissions and reporting

  • Submit monthly HFM and TM1 detail; reconcile as needed

  • Work with Controller in budget preparation and analysis, including analysis of accounts to predict net revenues, margin, op costs, and PBIT

  • Manage external and internal audits and audit responses

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

  • Seven+ years of Accounting experience required

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint

  • Sage, HFM, and TM1 experience a plus; ability to learn new systems quickly

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Working knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and Internal Control framework requirements

  • Understanding of cost accounting and import cost calculations preferred

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team

  • Strong analytical skills; must be detail-oriented

  • Ability to work additional hours during month-end and as needed

  • Must be high energy and self-motivated

Tillman salary range: $125K-$135K based on experience, education, and geographic location.
