How will you make an impact in this role?

Responsible for contacting clients with overdue accounts to secure the settlement of the account. Also, they do preventive work to avoid future overdues with accounts that have a high exposure.

The candidate is responsible to conduct independent portfolio monitoring and credit risk assessments, develop and maintain credit risk policies and standards, review credit risk processes, and take part in projects that provides Second Line challenge to front-line risk teams. This role assures that Credit risk is properly evaluated and effectively communicated. The role also provides the opportunity to work with and impact numerous diverse businesses at American Express. The breadth of responsibilities in this role provides a great training ground for a candidate looking to understand the key principles of Institutional credit risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Credit Risk Oversight team within American Express oversees the Credit Risk Appetite limits, policy exceptions, and credit concentrations

  • The Credit Oversight team performs independent reviews of commercial portfolios that include an evaluation of the adequacy and accuracy of credit decisions, consistent application of risk policy and credit procedures, analysis of underwriting standards and practice, and determining through ongoing monitoring the overall assessment of asset quality.

  • Collaborate with Business Unit Risk teams to enhance decision processes or address major credit issues.

  • Analyze trends in the charge and lending portfolios and conduct deep dive analysis to understand key drivers.

  • Support the development of next generation risk capabilities (e.g. Smart Monitoring)

  • Produce credit risk dashboards for AXP Risk Committees including tracking risk appetite metrics.

Qualifications:

  • 0 – 3 years’ credit risk management experience or underwriting commercial exposures to small business, middle-market, and large multinational institutions

  • Knowledge of financial statement analysis including an understanding of key financial ratios with the ability to form independent opinions on credit and recognize emerging risks

  • Familiarity with banking regulations, particularly those imposed by OCC and Federal Reserve.

  • Knowledge of macroeconomic trends and its impact on borrower repayment.

  • Analytical skills and business acumen with a risk-reward control perspective.

  • Experience with data-driven analytical tools a plus (e.g. SQL, SAS, HIVE/HADOOP, R, Python)

  • Ability to clearly communicate findings to credit risk peers, business partners, and senior leaders.

  • Demonstrates the courage to challenge the status quo.

  • Demonstrates the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with colleagues across the Company.

  • Self-starter with natural curiosity to solve problems.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a degree (or substantial coursework) in finance, accounting, economics, or statistics

Qualifications

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually bonus benefits
