DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Thermal and Fluid Systems Technical Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering in Plymouth, MI.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Stakeholder Collaboration : By obtaining input and negotiating with various stakeholders, you ensure that project decisions are well-informed and aligned with the needs of all parties involved.
Decision-Making : Making decisions on short-term project details, such as conducting analysis and testing, supports the successful progression of projects and enhances their impact.
Process Improvement : Applying and supporting the improvement of processes like PPP, PPT, VPI, and VPC ensures that projects are executed efficiently and meet high-quality standards.
Technical Expertise : Utilizing tools related to thermal and fluid sciences, such as GT-Suite and Fluent, enables high-quality decision-making and optimizes project outcomes.
Leadership : Providing independent leadership on smaller business impact projects or complex components ensures accountability and drives project success.
Work Process Development : Leading the development and improvement of work processes and systems enhances efficiency and effectiveness across the functional discipline area.
Knowledge Transfer : Coordinating and directing work amongst technicians and temporary employees, and assisting in the transfer of knowledge to less experienced engineers, fosters a collaborative and skilled team environment.
Technical Guidance : Providing support and guidance to influence technical direction within the project team ensures that projects are aligned with best practices and continue to develop proficiency in critical competency areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer : Interpret and predict the performance of fluid and thermal systems using quantitative and intuitive understanding, along with modeling and experimental tools, to answer key questions about the system or component.
Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion : Apply principles of thermodynamics and energy conversion systems to predict the performance of systems like IC engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, and batteries, using modeling tools and experimental methods.
Product Failure Mode Avoidance : Identify and mitigate potential product failure modes by analyzing interfaces, functions, interactions, and potential failure causes to improve product reliability.
Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis : Utilize computational tools and methods to predict product function capabilities, impacting design decisions and ensuring products meet system requirements.
Product Problem Solving : Solve product problems by determining the assignable cause, implementing robust, data-based solutions, and identifying systemic root causes to prevent recurrence.
System Requirements Engineering : Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements, establish acceptance criteria, track requirements throughout the lifecycle, and assess the impact of changes on project scope, schedule, and resources.
Systems Thinking : Define and analyze the system of interest, understanding its context, interfaces, and lifecycle to predict behavior and devise modifications for desired outcomes.
Building Networks : Develop and maintain formal and informal relationships inside and outside the organization to foster collaboration and support.
Effective Communication : Develop and deliver clear, multi-mode communications tailored to the unique needs of different audiences, ensuring that all stakeholders are well-informed and engaged.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Information:
Proficiency writing MATLAB scripts and functions (1 year professional experience or 3 academic projects using MATLAB).
Preferably with experience working with timeseries or recorded data (plotting, working with vectors/arrays/matrices, sorting and filtering data, statistical analysis).
At least light experience with Simulink (1 year professional experience or 1 academic project using Simulink)
Strong technical communication/presentation skills and creativity
Experience with vehicle On-board Diagnostics (OBD), software calibration, and Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) testing preferred
Experience with Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) preferred
Advanced knowledge of automotive systems/powertrains would be a nice to have
Presenting technical proposals for calibration strategies to external customer
Collaborating with internal and external teams for technical problem solving
