Posted: May 22, 2025
Weekly Hours: 40
Role Number: 200606116
At Apple, we focus deeply on our customers’ experience. Apple Ads brings this same approach to advertising, helping people find exactly what they’re looking for and helping advertisers grow their businesses.
Our technology powers ads and sponsorships across Apple Services, including the App Store, Apple News, and MLS Season Pass. Everything we do is designed for trust, connection, and impact: We respect user privacy, integrate advertising thoughtfully into the experience, and deliver value for advertisers of all sizes—from small app developers to big, global brands. Because when advertising is done right, it benefits everyone.
Description
The Reliability Engineering organization within Apple Ads is responsible for the scale, availability, cost-efficiency, and developer productivity of our advertising infrastructure. This is not a DevOps or CI/CD-only role—we’re looking for engineers who build strategic, long-term platform solutions.
As a senior technical contributor, you will:
- Define and evolve the infrastructure strategy for Apple Ads with a strong focus on developer velocity, scale, and cost-efficiency.
- Partner with Engineering Experience and Developer Platform teams to deliver paved-path infrastructure that enables fast and reliable development workflows.
- Evaluate and transform existing infrastructure, looking around the corner for inefficiencies, modernizing architectures, and championing long-term improvements across reliability, performance, and observability.
- Lead incident response, postmortems, and continuous improvement initiatives to raise the operational bar across systems and teams.
- Build tooling and automation frameworks for repeatable, secure, and scalable infrastructure delivery.
- Design and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and other frameworks.
- Drive alignment across engineering, product, and infrastructure teams—ensuring that technical decisions support both developer needs and business goals.
- Bring empathy to developer pain points and create infrastructure experiences that are simple, scalable, and delightful to use.
- Understand advertising business flows and contribute infrastructure insights that improve monetization, fill rate, and time-to-market for new ad formats.
Minimum Qualifications
8+ years of hands-on experience operating large-scale internet-facing distributed systems in production environments.
Deep experience designing and running infrastructure in AWS (or equivalent public cloud environments) with production ownership responsibilities.
Proven track record of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) development using Terraform.
Expertise with Linux-based systems, including a strong grasp of internals, networking, and systems programming fundamentals.
Strong software development background ideally having worked as an application developer using languages like Python, Go, or similar.
Experience with container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Nomad).
Demonstrated ability to lead incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
Excellent collaboration skills, with a proactive approach to partnering across teams.
Strong ownership mindset, with attention to business goals, cost efficiency, and infrastructure scalability.
Experience mentoring and developing junior or mid-level engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in Ad Tech infrastructure at scale, including exposure to business metrics like fill rate, revenue per search, and latency-sensitive delivery.
Experience designing developer platforms or paved paths for infrastructure provisioning, testing, and deployment.
Hands-on experience building and running low-latency, high-throughput applications.
Strong understanding of distributed systems architecture and reliability patterns.
Comfort working in fast-moving, high-stakes environments with complex stakeholder landscapes.
Familiarity with observability tooling, CI/CD best practices, and cost optimization strategies.
Proficiency in additional languages such as Java, Go, or Rust.
