This role will report to the Director- North America Payroll within the Colleague Servicing organization. The US Payroll Tax Manager will be responsible for the US Payroll Tax function, overseeing and managing payroll tax and unemployment service providers in the processing of claims and tax filings as well as working with internal partners in ensuring American Express’ federal, state and local and global tax compliance.
The main responsibilities of the role include the following:
Lead and coach a team
Align goals with the organization’s overall strategy and set clear expectations and performance goals for each team member
Direct and oversee the day-to-day US Payroll Tax function including maintaining and updating payroll tax standard operating procedures, regulatory and control testing and management
Manage and oversee tax preparation, review and filings
Manage and oversee processing of Unemployment claims
Develop and maintain policies, processes, and training with appropriate documentation.
Manage vendor partners to terms of contract and service level agreements pertaining to Tax Servicing and Operations.
Oversee implementation of new process and/or systems
Extreme focus on operational excellence and mitigating risk.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Share knowledge, expertise, and guidance when complex problems or challenges arise through resolution
Partner with key stakeholders, i.e., Colleague Serving, G&L team, Treasury, Controllership, General Counsel, Employment and Corporate Tax
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in Payroll, Accounting or Tax
Proven successful leadership- dynamic leader who can lead a team as well as develop future leaders
Skills & Competencies:
Critical thinking
HCM knowledge and experience
Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to change
Exceptional verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
Tax and Accounting knowledge/background
Qualifications
Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits
