Role Description:
The Senior Product Manager at American Express drives innovation in Enterprise Metadata Management Platforms, owning vision, roadmap, enabling secure, scalable, and compliant data ecosystems. We leverage cutting-edge technology, including AI-driven solutions, to manage metadata across diverse data landscapes, ensuring robust data management, governance, lineage tracking, and quality controls that power data-driven decision-making. You will lead cross-functional efforts to define, develop, and deliver metadata management solutions that align with enterprise data strategies and regulatory requirements and scale adoption. This role partners closely with data governance teams, engineering squads, and business stakeholders to build and evolve platforms that handle complex, high-volume data environments, incorporating AI for enhanced automation and insights.
Primary Responsibilities:
Define and deliver the multi-year product strategy with clear OKRs, value metrics.
Lead cross-functional Agile squads, manage backlog, PRDs/epics/stories, and ship high-quality, iterative releases.
Build “enterprise metadata management platform” enabling discovery, lineage, data quality, retention and deletion, classification, and policy enforcement across lakes/warehouses/MDM/BI/streaming.
Drive enterprise-scale harvesting from SQL & No-SQL stores, ETL/ELT, orchestration (Airflow/Control-M), code repos (Java/Python/Go), pipelines (Spark/Beam), cloud services; implement CDC and schema evolution— including embeddings and code-to-lineage inferences .
Evaluate/integrate vendor and open-source platforms (Collibra/Alation, ATLAN, Foundational.io, Manta/Solidatus, Data Hub. Open Metadata); optimize TCO and make build-vs-buy calls, with AI guardrails and privacy-by-design .
Define/evolve domain models, taxonomies, glossary, stewardship and certification workflows; enforce RBAC/ABAC, masking, and data minimization with AI suggestion review loops .
Embed controls aligned maintain audit-ready evidence in products.
Run adoption/change programs (enablement, docs, office hours, communities of practice) and set guidance on when to trust/review/override AI outputs.
Manage budgets and portfolio trade-offs; influence senior stakeholders across a complex GSIB landscape.
Qualifications:
6 years in technical product management/engineering, including 5 years in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) partnering closely with engineering.
GSIB/Tier-1 bank experience in data/metadata platforms or data governance with exposure to risk, compliance, and audit examinations.
Hands-on data/code fluency: strong SQL; RDBMS (Oracle/Postgres/SQL Server) and No-SQL (MongoDB/Cassandra/Bigtable); ability to read/understand Java and Python (Go a plus) and interpret code paths for lineage.
Deep knowledge of metadata domains: technical metadata, business glossary, lineage, data-quality signals/rules, sensitivity/classification, retention & deletion, stewardship/ownership.
Proven delivery integrating catalog/lineage/classification tools and building custom connectors/APIs; REST/GraphQL, Kafka/Pub/Sub; microservices on AWS/Azure/GCP with Docker/Kubernetes.
Practical exposure to AI in metadata (auto-classification/PII, AI-assisted lineage, semantic search) and vector stores (OpenSearch/Elastic/Pinecone/Vertex Matching Engine).
Demonstrated ability to set OKRs, analyze telemetry, prioritize data-driven roadmaps, and communicate crisply with executives.
Bachelor’s in computer science, Engineering, or related field (MS/MBA a plus)

Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually bonus benefits
