We want your help creating prototype hardware systems needed to study the customer experience for future Apple products! We are looking for a new teammate with excellent design and fabrication skills, a deep attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication to collaborate with a diverse group of cross-functional partners.
Success in this role will require creativity, confidence, organization, and energy tempered by a sincere willingness to listen, learn, and understand what is needed from your designs. We want you to guide brainstorm sessions and quickly incorporate feedback to create electromechanical prototypes and testing apparatus. We’re looking for a solid understanding of mechanical engineering first principles, with deep experience in mechatronics design, sensor integration, and data acquisition. The hardware our teams builds must perform reliably in user studies and executive demos.
Description
In this role, you will bring new ideas to life via the use of first principles analysis, CAD tools, sensor integration, and a combination of machining, additive manufacturing, and softgoods prototyping processes. Sketching and free body diagrams will be meaningful communication tools, and judicious use of GD&T and tolerance analysis will be expected. Key Responsibilities Include: applying a mix of technical and creative skills to quickly design and build instrumented prototypes and measurement systems, supporting manual and automated data collection and analysis, improving design and customer experience via engineering analysis to understand system inputs and outputs, and establishing relationships with product design teams across Apple and helping cross functional teams identify the best design path.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
5+ years relevant work experience
Experience designing and fabricating measurement systems or instrumented prototypes
Experience applying engineering first principles (statics, mechanics, etc) to evaluate designs
Experience using CAD and basic lab tools to enable rapid design and fabrication of test fixtures and measurement systems
Proficiency gathering, analyzing, and visualizing data with Matlab, Python, LabView, JMP, or similar
Ability to travel up to 5% internationally and up to 10% domestically
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with technical leadership
Familiarity with a wide variety of sensor technologies, data acquisition systems, signal processing, and statistics techniques
Interest in wearables & human measurements
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
