Job Description
The Associate General Counsel will primarily be dedicated to supporting AbbVie’s Global Legal Strategies and Policy team, which seeks to influence the external policy, legislative, and regulatory landscape to advance and protect AbbVie’s interests. This attorney will partner closely with the Global Legal Strategies and Policy team to provide litigation insights on projects (past or ongoing subjects of which include the 340B drug pricing program, the drug price negotiation provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act, various provisions of the Medicare and Medicaid programs, and various presidential Executive Orders). The Associate General Counsel will also be responsible for developing and executing proactive litigation strategies aimed at improving the external policy, legislative, and regulatory landscape in alignment with the Global Legal Strategies and Policy team’s priorities and vision.
Responsibilities:
Partner with lawyers in AbbVie’s Global Legal Strategies and Policy team to understand business challenges posed by the existence and/or application of policy, legislative, or regulatory schemes, and contribute to developing creative, yet practical, strategies to address them.
Accurately assess litigation opportunities and risks.
Develop proactive litigation strategies, and direct outside counsel in executing them.
Key Stakeholders:
- AbbVie Global Legal Strategies and Policy group; AbbVie Government Affairs; AbbVie Corporate Affairs; various AbbVie business groups and functions.
Qualifications
Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school and in good standing with the state bar of the jurisdiction in which your office will be located (or the ability to gain licensure in the state where your office will be located) required.
Minimum 9+ years of relevant experience practicing law.
Experience litigating against or on behalf of governmental agencies or other governmental entities, in lawsuits regarding the enactment or enforcement of statues or regulations and other agency actions.
Experience litigating issues and doctrines arising in lawsuits regarding legislative, regulatory, and public-policy matters, such as the requirements of the Administrative Procedures Act, Due Process, Separation of Powers, the First Amendment’s Free Speech Clause, and the Fifth Amendment’s Takings Clause.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
