Broadcast Operations Managers oversee the technical and operational aspects of multiple live broadcast streams, ensuring seamless transmission and production. This role requires strong coordination with cross-functional teams, vendors, and broadcast partners to manage content acquisition, encoding, and distribution. You will contribute to and refine existing workflows as the product evolves. This role demands a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, to support live events across global time zones.
Description
Serve as a live event day manager ensuring Apple quality standards and smooth streaming operations through the platform for viewers.
Oversee the operation and maintenance of a broadcast master control facility, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to industry best practices.
Supervise broadcast operators and quality control.
Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams (internal & external).
Monitor signal flow, troubleshoot issues, and implement stabilization measures.
Coordinate with engineering and production for optimal signal quality and disaster recovery.
Understand and adhere to SOPs, contributing to updates as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years experience working with technical teams, digital media workflows, and live production environments, with a strong focus on live television broadcasting and live streaming operations.
3+ years of proven experience in a supervisory role in a high-tech multimedia environment managing live television broadcast events.
2+ years of proven experience with cloud-based video workflows and platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), with demonstrated expertise in using these platforms for live broadcast distribution.
2+ years of proven experience with automation systems used in broadcast environments for live television events.
Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution in maintaining live broadcast television or streaming feeds.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts related to live broadcasting and streaming for leading meetings, escalating issues, and reporting to executives.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to maintain composure under pressure, especially in the context of live events where immediate resolution is critical.
Proficiency in time management and meeting deadlines.
Proven proficiency in broadcast signal analysis, cloud-based solutions, and distribution technologies (CDN, SCTE, DAI), with a deep understanding of how these technologies are used in live television broadcasting and streaming workflows.
Proven experience and understanding of live television production, including switchers, audio mixing, graphics, and IP-based transport (SMPTE 2110. HLS, SRT, RTMP, etc.), with hands-on experience in these areas.
Demonstrated experience in vendor management, including contract negotiation, performance monitoring, and relationship building, specifically with vendors providing services for live broadcasting and streaming.
Experience with change management processes.
Knowledge of video and audio quality control methodologies and tools (waveform monitors, vectorscopes, audio loudness meters), with a particular focus on ensuring quality in live broadcast and streaming environments.
Proven understanding of broadcast regulations, encryption systems, and compliance standards related to both traditional broadcast and OTT streaming platforms.
Maintain a highly flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, to accommodate live events across various time zones. Broadcast schedules fluctuate based on event locations.
Up to 25% + travel required; both domestic and international
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Communications, Media Studies, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
Experience managing and mentoring broadcast operations teams.
Experience with live sports broadcasts beneficial.
Effective communicator, resilient, collaborative, and able to prioritize and make timely decisions.
Understanding of networking protocols and technologies relevant to media transport (TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast).
Experience with content management systems (CMS) and metadata management.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and new technologies.
