The team spans strategy, policy, online safety risk analysis, engineering, operations, and research, while supporting all parts of the Apple ecosystem. The team collaborates with external experts, victim advocacy groups and teams across Apple, working to understand key partner perspectives, priorities, and concerns, and develop insights that directly advise the threat prevention and mitigation strategies and safety solutions.

As the Threat Analyst/Risk Advisor Manager, you will lead and participate in a team of talented threat analysts and risk advisors responsible for proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with new and existing product features. You will both manage and work alongside your team, collaborating closely with product teams throughout the development lifecycle to build safety into the core of our products. Your ability to lead collaboratively, assess complex technical issues, and prioritize practical safety solutions balancing user safety, business objectives, and technical feasibility will be key to success in this role. You will play an important part in shaping our safety-by-design practice and ensuring our products are safe and trusted by millions of users worldwide.

Description

This role will:

Team Leadership & Development:
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Threat Analysts and Risk Advisors, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
* Provide guidance and support to team members in their risk assessments and communication.
* Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and identify growth opportunities.
* Recruit, hire, and onboard new team members.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation (Hands-on & Oversight):
* Actively participate in risk assessments, alongside your team, to identify potential Trust and Safety risks associated with proposed features.
* Collaborate with product teams during planning stages, providing input on mitigations and safety considerations from the outset.
* Help evolve and apply our objective risk framework to assess and quantify risk.
* Engage directly in evaluating UX and technical designs, testing functionalities and mitigations.
* Develop and recommend optimal mitigation strategies, balancing user safety, trust, timelines, and level of effort.
* Maintain a deep understanding of emerging threats and trends in online abuse.

Strategic Direction & Alignment:
* Contribute to the team's strategy for proactively identifying and mitigating online safety risks.
* Collaborate with Trust and Safety leadership to align team priorities with organizational goals.
* Identify opportunities to improve processes and tools.

Safety by Design & Principles:
* Champion the development and evolution of Trust and Safety principles.
* Advocate for the integration of these principles into product development.

Collaboration & Communication:
* Effectively communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
* Build trust with product teams, understanding their constraints and objectives.
* Facilitate discussions about risk mitigation strategies.
* Ensure clear documentation of risk assessments and decisions.

Continuous Improvement:
* Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging technologies.
* Contribute to the refinement of our risk framework.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Trust and Safety, risk management, policy, or security.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience leading or mentoring others.

  • Familiarity with online safety issues and emerging digital risks.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to balance user safety with business objectives.

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and recommend feasible, user-focused solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with product development teams.

  • Familiarity with product development methodologies.

  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (e.g., DSA, OSA).

  • Experience developing and implementing Trust and Safety policies.

  • Experience presenting to leadership.

  • Experience managing a risk-focused team while also contributing to individual risk assessments or product safety evaluations.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $176,600 and $313,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
