Job Description

Partner with RDSR and key R&D stakeholders to develop and implement strategies tied to R&D priorities, ensuring effective coordination and strong change management. Responsible for resource and space planning to optimize organizational resources; and ensure alignment between human capital and optimal physical space utilization. Understand resourcing and broader business impacts of initiatives/capabilities and x-functional priorities to better inform decisions. Support in executing global resource strategies and helping functions operate within the existing Plan/updated budget. Assist in building RDSR capabilities and codifying workflow processes.

  • Accountable for optimizing space allocation and utilization to support business priorities, collaboration needs, and work styles aligned with enterprise guidance. Anticipate growing and evolving business needs; and partner with Facilities to strategically identify alternative space scenarios to accommodate future needs.

  • Refine and build-up integrated workflow processes to ensure optimal utilization of space in support of business needs; ensuring consistent processes to accommodate shifting business needs

  • Partners with RDSR lead to develop and implement RDSR and departmental goals; and connects across RDSR to ensure consistent operating model and sharing of best practices. Provides proactive leadership on strategic business issues and makes strategic decisions that affect the department and the business.

  • Primarily accountable for forecasting and management of resources (people and space) and associated budgets. Responsible for short and long term forecasts and management of implications of alternative development scenarios

  • Provide leadership and develop strategic recommendations to ensure all functional areas operate within the current Plan/updated resources and budget. Partner with functional leaders to resource and financially plan upcoming initiatives and projects

  • Provide overall portfolio timeline and cost estimates to assess portfolio resources and associated financial opportunities/planning (e.g. LRP, Plan). Negotiate with other functional areas on portfolio outcomes and deliverables to meet conflicting demands (time, cost, quality, performance)

  • Collaborate across R&D to participate in initiatives to improve operational performance, enhance culture, and improve decision making

  • Develops and maintains business relationships across functional areas of AbbVie to further R&D objectives in support of the strategic imperatives.

  • Partners across Finance, HR, and R&D to enhance teamwork and identify workable solutions. Serves as resourcing (people and space) expert and establishes and maintains relationships with key resources / contacts / stakeholders.

  • Supports in the management and establishment of resource models, tools, and processes; serves as Center of Excellence on all resourcing questions across R&D.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master of Science (BSc/MSc), or PhD in Science of Business related field. Expert operations management (people and space) experience with 5+ years in the pharmaceutical or health care industry

  • Experience with standard business procedures including project management practices, portfolio review, finance, and budgeting. Multi-faceted, broad-based experience and knowledge of operational business needs, issues, mitigation plans. Operations experience with large budget and matrixed environment

  • Excellence interpersonal and organizational skills, with strong ability to connect concepts/topics. Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate others in a complex, multi-functional matrix environment

  • Executive level collaboration and leadership skills with broad business orientation

  • Excellence in data analysis and insight/recommendation generation, with experience in relevant data/project management systems (BluPrint, Microsoft Excel, Oracle, Workday, etc) preferred
