Global Merchant Services, the merchant network of American Express, acquires and maintains relationships with millions of merchants around the world who welcome American Express-branded Cards. The Business Operations team, within the Merchant Services – U.S. business, is dedicated to coordinating and managing risk remediation activities severing as a liaison between front line customer and market facing teams and our more formal control management and compliance partners. The team leads on local process excellence, identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities and closing control gaps through collaboration as well as coordinating audit response for parts of MS—U.S. and addressing emerging risks and policy adherence. This is a newly created team in the business, designed to play a pivotal role in shaping our strong risk management culture and to define our strategy and compliance efforts for the U.S.

Key partners include U.S. Merchant Acquisition and Client Management, Control Management, General Counsel Office (GCO) and Compliance teams (among others).

This Director of Business Operations position will report to the Vice President of Business Operations and be responsible for audit response and remediation management as well as serving a key stakeholder in Risk Assessment Unit (RAU) and Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) coordination. This colleague will lead a team of Sr. Managers and Analysts in these efforts ensuring timely responses, effective remediation management, effective new control implementations and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Support formal and informal MS—U.S. in audit work including preparation, response, and remediation. This includes review of responses, creation of supporting walk through materials, timely leadership updates, coordination across key stakeholders, etc.

  • Drive results through a team including Sr. Managers and Analysts.

  • Serve as a key stakeholder in the new Risk Assessment Unit (RAU) and Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) efforts across the business. Ensuring appropriate subject matter expert (SME) involvement, leadership updates, and cross-team coordination in the development and sustainability of work product

  • Lead special projects in support of risk management, process excellence, policy implementation and adherence, audit outputs, etc.

  • Oversee and maintain a robust control environment to monitor risk.

  • Lead ad-hoc cross team projects, as needed, based on resourcing and deadlines

Qualifications:

  • Decisive Self-Starter with high degree of accountability and experience leading matrixed teams through change.

  • Executive presence with ability to exercise sound business judgment and clear, independent decision-making.

  • Effective communication skills to lead, influence, and build consensus among senior leaders across different business groups.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex items simultaneously.

  • Experience leading cross-functional or broad stakeholder teams, driving towards goals in time-sensitive and rapidly changing situations.

  • Effective coach and people leader able to develop colleague talent and drive engagement.

  • Experience working with Control Management, GCO, Compliance, Risk, and/or Internal Audit.

  • BA/BS Degree, MBA Preferred.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
