Our goal is to create a valuable experience for both buyers and sellers, while also driving performance for advertisers. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work closely with designers, product managers and other engineers (frontend, backend, machine learning, quality) to revolutionize the advertising space for eBay and beyond.

Advertising is a fast growing, high priority area at eBay. The team builds and manages mission critical systems at a scale and complexity that is very unique. eBay’s ad products serve 190 million buyers worldwide, and deal with 50 Billion daily events across various stacks. Primary Responsibilities:

You must be very familiar with and an advocate of common Agile practices:

• Designing elegant technical solutions to customer problems

• Proficient in Test Driven Development, clean code, software craftsmanship

• Focus on quality with testing at all levels (unit, integration, and UI), Continuous delivery and integration and Code reviews

• Proficient in standard scrum ceremonies (e.g. stand-ups, sprint planning, demos and retrospectives)

You will also be expected to:

• Integrate closely w/ colleagues in different functional groups and remote offices

• Evangelize, mentor, and promote engineering best practices throughout the company

• Promote a culture of "internal open source" where teams can contribute to each other's code bases regardless of organizational boundaries

• Enjoy being part of a team of motivated, collaborative, high-achievers

• Communicate effectively within your team and across teams.

• Identify project risks, quantify risk/benefit relationships and provide alternative solutions as well as risk mitigation.

Job Requirements:

• 6+ Years of software design and development experience

• Experience with JVM languages (Java, Kotlin, Scala), and/or NodeJS

• Experience with batch and data streaming technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Flink etc)

• Deep web service experience - full stack capabilities strongly preferred

• Knowledge or experience of one or more client technologies (Android, iOS, or web)

• Deep understanding of design patterns, and experience working in a layered architecture

• Comfortable with rapid development cycles, tight schedules, close integration with QA and product management

• Experience with modern DevOps principles and continuous delivery

• Strong work ethic - someone who takes great pride in professionalism, responsibility, and being proactive

• A positive can-do attitude with a strong desire to succeed

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Proactive and hardworking when tackling new challenges

• Ability to work independently and the confidence to question where necessary

• Code samples from private github repos, side projects, and open source project contributions is a plus
