DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented IT Product Manager to join our team specializing in Systems/Information Technology for Cummins Inc. in Columbus, IN.

Responsibilities:

  • This position is responsible for leading and managing one or more software development product teams within the Chief Administrative Office > Product Compliance & Regulatory Affairs function. The role will drive product strategy, execution, and lifecycle management to deliver impactful, customer-centric solutions aligned with business objectives

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams during release and sprint planning, demos, and synchronization ceremonies.

  • Define and evolve the product vision and roadmap in alignment with business impact.

  • Uses best practice tools and techniques to lead team to minimum viable product definition and prioritization of features & requirements

  • Collaborate with Business and IT Stakeholders to define functional and non-functional requirements for upcoming sprints

  • Prioritize and manage the product backlog, translating business needs into user stories and acceptance criteria.

  • Balance customer value, technical feasibility, and cost efficiency in feature prioritization.

  • Lead user acceptance testing and ensure solutions meet customer expectations.

  • Problem Solving skills: The ability to identify obstacles and find effective solutions to keep the team moving forward. 

  • Serve as the voice of the customer within the product team to ensure alignment with user needs.

  • Drive achievement of product OKRs and support communication and outreach efforts.

  • Skilled in taking complex business and IT problems and breaking them down into simple, achievable and realistic delivery plans.

  • Own the financial and strategic success of the product(s) throughout their lifecycle.

  • Facilitation and Coaching abilities: Exceptional facilitation skills are needed to guide team through meetings, workshops, events and decision-making processes. 

  • Conflict resolution: The ability to resolve conflicts and facilitate discussions to find mutually agreeable solution. 

  • Empathy and active listening: Understand team members perspective and fostering supportive environment is key to build trust and collaboration.

  • Business insight - Applying knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance the organization’s goals.

  • Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

  • Global perspective - Taking a broad view when approaching issues, using a global lens

  • This position will require the selected candidate to report on-site 40-60% of the time and align with Cummins policies and guidelines for hybrid working.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Building High Performance Teams - Identifies and applies critical skills and Lean-Agile principles and practices in the creation of high-performing Agile teams to construct high-quality, well designed technical solutions.

  • Lean Agile and SAFe Mindset - Advocates for and leads others in the concepts of the Agile Manifesto and Lean thinking in support of adopting and applying the 9 SAFe principles and practices for the organization.

  • Lean Portfolio Management, budgets, and Economic Framework - Applies Lean and systems thinking approaches in support of strategy, investment funding, Agile portfolio operations, and governance; evaluates working systems; manages Epic investments and dynamic budget adjustments to minimize overhead through funding and empowering Value Streams while maintaining financial and fit-for-use governance to minimize overhead; assesses and supports decision rules that align to the financial objectives of the Solution to guide the economic decision-making process.

  • Planning and Managing Ceremonies - Plans, schedules, and leads ceremonies that create a cadence for the team to maximize productivity, promote collaboration, maintain transparency, and inspect and adapt so the team can continuously learn and improve.

  • Program Backlog Management and User Story Elaboration - Identifies, refines, prioritizes, and sequences backlog items using Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF) to ensure the economic success of the solution; determines the details of a product feature to ensure that any unanswered questions about it are answered so that development can proceed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • College, university, or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or related subject, or relevant equivalent experience required.

  • SAFe® Product Owner/Agile Product Manager (POPM) certification preferred.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

  • Must have experience working in software development environment following SDLC and fully understand best practices for designing, building, testing and deploying software

  • Previous experience working in Compliance function is preferred.

  • Business knowledge with knowledge and practical experience of the Agile (Scrum, Kanban) methodology, principles and tools are preferred.

  • Experience working in an Agile environment is preferred.

  • Drive Feature Development with Precision Through Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and clear story acceptance criteria, you’ll reduce rework, improve flow, and ensure that features deliver real value.

  • Communicate Product Vision and Goals You’ll define and clearly communicate the Product Goal and backlog items, ensuring transparency and shared understanding across teams and stakeholders.

  • Maintain Iteration Momentum By prioritizing stories, managing the team backlog, and validating completed work against the Definition of Done, you’ll keep development focused and outcomes high-quality.

  • Influence Without Authority You’ll build consensus and support across matrixed teams, using persuasive communication and collaboration to align diverse stakeholders around shared goals.

  • Align Product Work with Organizational Strategy With a strong grasp of the organization’s mission and structure, you’ll ensure product decisions support broader business objectives and deliver measurable value.
