Social Development Consultant

SourceAmerica is seeking a Social Development Consultant for our customer.

• Master's degree with at least 2-3 years professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related social science (e.g., Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Political Science).

• In-depth knowledge of at least one other social development competencies – social inclusion, addressing fragility and conflict, community driven development (incl. community mobilization and empowerment) – is desirable.

• Demonstrated skills and direct work experience with at least one or more of the following: public consultations; participatory research methods (including observation, surveys); participatory rural and urban appraisal; participatory poverty assessments; participatory monitoring and evaluation; and grievance redress mechanisms, or other related experiences.

• Demonstrated analytical capacity, through written work and dialogue, of in-depth knowledge of social issues, including social assessment and consultation/participation methodologies, working with vulnerable groups, resettlement, and Indigenous Peoples.

• Demonstrated skills and direct work experience in the field of social accountability and citizen engagement (including public consultations; participatory research methods and poverty assessments; participatory monitoring and evaluation; and grievance redress mechanisms; and in the political economy aspects of decentralized public-sector management would be an advantage

• In-depth knowledge of at least one other of the social development competencies – social inclusion; addressing fragility, conflict and violence, community driven development (incl. community mobilization and empowerment) – is desirable.

• Demonstrated ability to use office software and communication technology.

• A proven team-player, experienced in working collaboratively in a broad range of cultural and social contexts.

• Demonstrated ability to apply a practical approach to problem solving, produce high quality work outputs, effectively prioritize, and adapt to competing and unexpected demands.

• Willingness to travel regularly.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

• Enthusiasm for, and commitment to, poverty alleviation, social development and addressing the needs of the most vulnerable.

• Social Development Implications on Policy, Institutions, and Operations - Familiarity with the implications of social development on policy, institutions, and operations.

• Analytical Tools for Social Sustainability - Solid experience conducting social development analyses, producing meaningful results, and applying the tools during an operation.

• Participation and Consultation - Solid experience conducting social development consultative and participatory approaches and their use in operations.

• Social Safeguards - Familiar with and can apply (under supervision) the social safeguard policies to diverse situations, quickly identifying key issues, risks, and opportunities.

• Project Management - Understands and utilizes the basic concepts of project management, as they relate to the implementation of a project.

• Client Orientation - Takes personal responsibility and accountability for timely response to client queries, requests or needs, working to remove obstacles that may impede execution or overall success.

• Drive for Results - Takes personal ownership and accountability to meet deadlines and achieve agreed-upon results, and has the personal organization to do so.

•Teamwork, Collaboration, and Inclusion – Collaborates across boundaries and with other team members, and contributes productively to the team's work and output, demonstrating respect for different points of view.

• Knowledge, Learning and Communication - Actively seeks knowledge needed to complete assignments and shares knowledge with others, communicating and presenting information in a clear and organized manner.
