URBAN DEVELOPMENT Consultant
SourceAmerica is seeking an Urban Development Consultant for our customer.
Duties and responsibilities
Carries out responsibilities for a variety of operational tasks, e.g. technical analyses, design of technical assistance interventions, participation in loan negotiations, etc.
• Participates in developing and implementing practice strategy and assists in country-specific policy work.
• Participates in missions in area of specialization; provides technical inputs and guidance to counterparts on appropriate scope, technology, costs, etc.; prepares terms of reference for project- or sector-related work.
• Works independently, seeking guidance on complex projects/issues from senior specialists.
• Support the Task Team Leaders (TTLs) in drafting synthesis papers covering analysis and review of technical studies, national and local policy frameworks, and review consultants reports and outputs.
• Support TTLs and Senior Specialists in undertaking and managing diverse analytical analyses in the areas of urban planning and development as input into analytical and advisory work.
• Support TTLs in project preparation and implementation support.
• Provide inputs to concept notes, synthesize comments, and help prepare review meeting packages; assist with dissemination of findings, including drafting briefing notes, talking points, Power Point presentations as well as coordinating workshops.
• Support preparation of project briefs, aide memoirs, and other materials as part of internal documentation.
SELECTION CRITERIA
• Minimum Master’s degree in a field relevant to urban development such as urban design and planning, economics, architecture, public policy or a related field.
• A minimum of two years (three years preferred) of relevant experience. Analytical work and/or project experience in the urban sector is required, and preferably with substantive experiences in developing countries.
• Strong motivation to work in the urban development sector in the developing countries and ability to work flexibly and independently on a range of assignments, adjusting to and prioritizing a variety of complex evolving tasks.
• Practical skills in urban planning, project development, data analysis.
•Ability to develop, analyze and articulate technical issues in the urban and regional development sector.
• Knowledge of relevant software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geo-spatial analysis desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to function effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Excellent and effective command of English both in verbal and written forms.
• Proven track record of delivery of high quality outputs while working under pressure and within tight deadlines.
• Ability to function effectively in multi-disciplinary teams within a matrix management environment.
• Experience in operations and/or project management in the urban sector would be an advantage.
