Enterprise Shared Services (ESS) comprises key functions that are core to the company’s operations, including Global Real Estate & Workplace Experience, Global Supply Management, Business Continuity Management, Aviation, and Global Security. ESS helps keep American Express growing and puts our colleagues at the center of everything they do by delivering best-in-class services that power safe, resilient, and efficient operations around the world.

To support the growing complexity of ESS operations and manage heightened risk expectations, ESS is creating a new Quality & Operations team. The ESS Quality & Operations team will provide strategic coordination between ESS business process owners and AXP risk programs and act as a single point of accountability to drive ESS’s adherence to key AXP risk policies and standards. The Director – ESS Quality & Operations role will lead this new team and report directly to the Vice President - Third-Party COE within Global Supply Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure ESS adherence to key AXP risk program requirements with a specific focus on driving ESS business unit results related to compliance risk management, operational risk management and project management.

  • Establish ESS process governance and drive ESS business unit results against key risk performance measures including Technology Application Health & Compliance, Records Retention, Privacy Risk Assessments, Cybersecurity and Enterprise Training.

  • Support ESS process owners with the migration to the new Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) framework, including partnering with them to map processes, identify risks and develop and document effective controls to manage the risks.

  • Manage third parties that support ESS operations by acting as the ESS Business Unit Third-Party Lifecycle Management (TLM) lead and serve as the ESS Affiliate Management program liaison.

  • Track and report on operational risk events and issues across ESS. Collaborate with ESS event and issue owners to drive timely issue remediation and develop new controls to prevent future operational breakdowns.

  • Escalate risks and issues to ESS senior leaders and relevant committees in accordance with the Risk Governance Framework.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Drives Results: Strong attention to detail and superior organizational and follow through skills. Adapts well to and initiates change in the organization.

  • Effective Collaborator: Effectively manages internal stakeholders and process owners across Enterprise Shared Services and collaborates effectively with other key stakeholders including with the Corporate Functions Control Management team.

  • Bias Towards Action: Ability to steer program stakeholders and leaders to make informed and timely decisions and removes barriers to forward progress.

  • Clear Communicator: Able to communicate clearly and effectively at multiple levels and can influence without direct authority. Understands and communicates linkages across programs and risk disciplines.

  • Proven people leader: Consistent track record of people leadership, both in building high performing teams, as well as creating followership. Experience leading across global markets and time zones is a plus.

  • 7 years of experience in a risk/control field is required. E.g., Operational Risk Management, Compliance Risk Management, Third-Party Risk Management, Audit, etc.

  • Undergraduate degree required.Advanced degree in Business Administration, MIS, Finance, Accounting or related field a plus.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
