Job Description
Purpose:
The Director of Data & Digital Compliance and Governance will establish and lead AbbVie’s enterprise-wide governance framework for AI, digital, and data assets across Operations. This role will be responsible for defining and executing the Operations AI Compliance Strategy. This role ensures governance is standardized, trusted, and embedded into Ops AI initiatives (Digital CMC, NEO, OMEGA and ALPHA), Factory of the Future, Lab/ QA of the Future, Supply Chain/ Control Tower, and other digital transformation initiatives. The Director will drive overall governance and compliance, including digital and AI governance at the Operations level, and oversee a team (data governance, change management, project management) to coordinate standards, enable adoption, and ensure AbbVie’s digital investments are supported by high-quality, well-managed data and processes.
Responsibilities:
Defining and Executing the Operations AI Compliance Strategy
Define and maintain an enterprise taxonomy and governance framework spanning data, digital, and AI, ensuring consistent standards across Operations initiatives.
Develop and maintain an inventory of priority Operations data assets, data products and data flows in a central metadata management platform and AbbVie’s Operations Data Marketplace
Oversee the prioritization critical data domains (e.g., product, batch, equipment, quality, supply chain) to be governed based on 2026–2027 initiative dependencies.
Onboard and coordinate collaboration across data domain leads, data product stewards and data consumers across Operations to support strategic priorities.
Develop and govern policies, standards, and charters for Operations data governance in alignment with AbbVie’s enterprise data governance framework and regulatory (GxP/GMP) requirements.
Provide portfolio-level oversight of governance activities, integrating the work of the data governance lead, change management lead, and project manager into a unified Ops AI governance program.
Coordinate with data owners and stewards to enforce data standards, definitions, and quality rules across operational systems (e.g., ERP, MES, LIMS, procurement platforms)
Facilitate regular data governance council/committee meetings, ensuring that decisions, action items, and policies are communicated and implemented
Build and manage the Operations data product improvement backlog, sequencing investments to support Ops AI initiatives (Digital CMC, NEO, OMEGA and ALPHA), Factory of the Future, Lab/ QA of the Future, Supply Chain/ Control Tower, and other digital transformation initiatives’ roadmap dependencies.
Collaborate with functional leads, BTS leads, site digital leads, and business partners to embed governance into digital product design, ensuring interoperability and scalability across functions.
Establish metrics and dashboards to monitor adoption, data quality, and business value delivered through governance.
Act as the primary liaison to cross-functional leadership on governance decisions, balancing enterprise alignment with local flexibility.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
15+ years of experience in data governance, master data management, or digital transformation, ideally within life sciences or manufacturing.
Proven expertise in data, digital, and governance frameworks.
Experience leading governance in a matrixed, global environment, with ability to align stakeholders across Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, IT, etc.
Familiarity with metadata tools, enterprise data lakes, and integration platforms.
Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (GxP/GMP, data integrity, auditability) in pharma manufacturing.
Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution, driving adoption of governance standards.
Strong leadership, facilitation, and communication skills to influence senior stakeholders.
Proven experience managing direct reports across governance, change management, and PMO.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. ?
