American Express National Bank is American Express’ U.S. banking operation, representing more than 60% of the company’s revenues through consistent payments, financing, and savings products. Led by the Chief Operating Officer, AENB HQ drives the administration of programs and services provided by AENB, in partnership with Bank affiliates and executive officers. In addition, the team plays an enterprise role in driving greater consistency, effectiveness and efficiency across the first line via the AENB COO Office’s Strategic Planning, Control Management, Program Management and Governance functions.
The Enterprise Control Management (ECM) team within AENB operates as a Center of Excellence to serve as a central support hub for all first-line control management teams throughout the enterprise and be a key connection point with the second-line Global Risk & Compliance (GRC) teams.
How will you make an impact in this role?
The Vice President (VP) of Governance & Initiatives will work with the Head of ECM and across the ECM leadership team to provide governance within the ECM team and across the control management organization at American Express. This VP will own the strategy and execution of project managing ECM initiatives and related coordination of change management activities (communications, plans to socialize and vet, solicit feedback and drive collaboration across function and businesses, including control management and second line of defense).
Key Responsibilities:
Oversight and management of the ECM Governance, which includes activities such as Control Management Lead Forums, Collaboration Groups, and Control Management Town Halls and related work to drive consistency, create community, and share best practices across the broader Control Management organization.
Oversight of ECM owned governing documents including but not limited to: procedures, templates, job aids, and reference guides.
Lead and manage ECM initiatives as assigned by the Head of ECM including project management of all ECM deliverables, ownership of cohesive and coordinated change management across ECM initiatives and integration with related initiatives across second line of defense and first line of defense.
Partner across the ECM leadership team and with ECM's VP of Learning & Communications to coordinate and drive robust change management activities including communications, obtaining buy-in, receiving inputs and removing roadblocks, as relevant.
Create material for regular and ad hoc updates and presentations to Executive Committee and other governing bodies and senior stakeholders.
Be a thought leader with a proactive mindset. Align stakeholders across functional and business areas as needed, assess risks, escalate and devise mitigation strategies, think through interdependencies, drive collaboration in support of initiatives and risk management uplift.
Minimum Qualifications
8 Years experience in operational risk management (e.g., within Risk and/or Internal Audit function) and understands critical operational risk management lifecycle activities.
Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with successful experience in leading and teaching others these skills.
Proven record of successfully leading and implementing complex, large-scale, cross-functional initiatives.
Experience leading and executing governance work in committee, forums, and communications.
Experience driving transformational change across a large-scale organization.
Demonstrate core leadership abilities, which include setting the agenda for the team and enterprise, bringing others along by fostering collaboration and promoting diversity and inclusion, and doing it the right way through clear, candid, and courageous communication.
Preferred Qualifications
Proven expertise in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards.
Strong consultative and collaborative skills to partner with business leaders to devise solutions to complex business challenges and persevere through conflict that comes with change.
Strong relationship/interpersonal skills with ability to build trust, followership, and develop productive relationships across stakeholders including business, second line of defense, and audit partners, including but not limited to challenging the status quo.
Knowledge of regulatory changes and industry best practices, leading regulatory engagement and providing oversight of processes to monitor, evaluate and integrate regulatory changes into operational risk framework and trainings.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively.
Demonstrated history and ability to manage large teams and stakeholders, spread over geographies and with varying backgrounds.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
