Role Number: 200642895-3401

Summary

Lead the transformation of Apple's testing and validation infrastructure at scale. As a Test Infrastructure Manager, you'll architect and champion comprehensive developer platforms that empower thousands of engineers across Apple to author and execute validation efficiently. This is a strategic leadership opportunity to build infrastructure and tooling that enables developers to validate early, often, and with confidence—while establishing robust feedback loops from production operations and SRE to continuously improve coverage effectiveness and risk assessment. You will excel in this role by mastering three critical domains: Strategic Leadership, Reliability & Operational Excellence, and Developer Platforms.

Description

You will drive a mission-critical function that directly impacts engineering velocity and production reliability across Apple. This role offers the unique opportunity to: -- Define testing and validation strategy at organizational scale—determining how diverse developer communities (framework teams, domain search engineers, eval engineers, and more) author and execute validation -- Build best-in-class infrastructure and tooling that removes friction from validation and enables developers to write effective tests, quickly iterate, and gain confidence in their changes -- Create visibility into coverage and risk by establishing metrics, reporting, and analytics that help teams understand what's being tested, identify coverage gaps, and assess production risk — Drive feedback loops from production through collaboration with production operations and SRE, ensuring validation infrastructure evolves based on real-world failures and enabling continuous learning — Lead cross-functional impact across internal framework teams, external domain-specific developers, eval engineers, product engineering, operations, and security — Mentor and inspire technical leaders who are passionate about enabling developers and building exceptional infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to identify cross-functional problems, align stakeholders with different priorities around a shared vision, and execute roadmaps to solve them. Be ready to discuss a specific scenario: what problem did you identify, how did you engage stakeholders, what roadmap did you create, and what trade-offs did you navigate?

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills—proven ability to influence across teams, build consensus among diverse stakeholders, and communicate technical concepts clearly to audiences with varying levels of technical depth.

  • Demonstrated leadership managing technical teams, with a track record of building and developing talent. Comfortable managing managers and individual contributors, fostering technical excellence, and scaling your impact through others.

  • Significant management experience (minimum 5+ years) with responsibility for building and scaling technical teams. Comfortable managing managers and individual contributors, with a proven track record of developing manager-level talent and scaling your impact through others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in root cause analysis and systemic problem-solving, with a proven ability to implement strategic processes and scalable, long-term solutions. Experience leading blameless post-mortems, incident reviews, or similar retrospective processes to drive organizational learning and prevent recurrence. Track record of turning infrastructure failures into improvements that measurably increase engineering velocity and reliability.

  • Success leading organizational change—identifying cross-functional problems, building shared vision around solutions, and executing multi-quarter roadmaps that drive meaningful, measurable impact.

  • Track record of driving adoption of engineering best practices across large organizations—examples might include build system improvements, release process optimization, deployment automation, infrastructure migrations (e.g., datacenter moves), or related initiatives. Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change and overcome resistance to new practices.

  • Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups—product engineering, operations/SRE, infrastructure teams, and specialized developer communities—to understand infrastructure needs and drive adoption of new tools and practices.

  • Strong background in test environment provisioning, infrastructure reliability patterns, and understanding how production patterns inform development infrastructure decisions.

  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) for building scalable infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated mastery of metrics, reporting, and analytics infrastructure that provides visibility into coverage effectiveness, infrastructure health, and risk assessment.

  • Extensive experience designing and implementing comprehensive developer platforms focused on reliability, performance, and enabling rapid feedback—including testing infrastructure, validation tooling, and development environment design. Understanding of how to balance reliability with velocity.

  • Proven expertise in building self-service platforms that empower diverse developer communities to operate independently while maintaining governance, consistency, and best practices.

  • Experience with advanced validation and infrastructure techniques such as property-based testing, mutation testing, chaos engineering, continuous fuzzing, or production observability patterns.

  • Passion for developer experience and a track record of building platforms that make developers more productive, reduce friction, and are intuitive and effective for engineers at all levels.
