The Shortage Control Analyst is responsible for identifying shrink issues and developing solutions to support the Barnes & Noble and Paper Source stores and to protect company assets. In this role you will plan and coordinate the annual physical inventory for all stores, including schedules, preparations, procedures, training, and execution. You will serve as a key partner for our merchants and stores to reconcile inventory to maximize profitability. Shortage Control Analyst acts as a Loss Prevention subject matter expert and ensures that operational and merchant initiatives align with Loss Prevention goals while driving profitability.

An employee in this position can expect an annual starting rate of $70,000 - $80,000, depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.

This position is an onsite role based in our Monroe, NJ location.

WhatYouDo:

• Manages the Physical Inventory process including scheduling, development of training and communication materials, store execution compliance and the resolution of problems. Facilitates and coordinates with External Partners, Finance, Store Operations, Store Communications, Learning and Development, and IT.

• Reconciles inventory and follows up with issues including miscounts to ensure accurate results. Utilizes results in partnership with merchants and stores to increase awareness of exposures and develops strategies to reduce shrink.

• Facilitates the development, implementation, and ongoing execution of Loss Prevention initiatives, programs, and services as it relates to technology and systems.

• Reviews EDI invoicing in detail to identify and resolve shortage exposures, including ensuring correct retail and allocation.

• Leads project plans from concept to completion and works effectively with internal partners (i.e., Regional Loss Prevention Directors, Store Operations, Store Communications, IT, Learning & Development, Home Office Merchants, etc.) to drive results.

• Supports the execution, communication, and follow-up of store operational procedures in relation to Loss Prevention (e.g., cycle counts, stock counts, manifest, overdue receipts, and new operational procedures).

• Supports field partners to execute company-related shrink programs designed to reduce inventory shrink and protect company assets.

• Enhances and ensures loss prevention programs support the delivery of the four core service principles.

• Determines Shortage Control Target Stores, completes shrink analysis, and executes high shrink visits.

• Facilitates research and resolutions of store specific shrink issues.

• Consistently displays exceptional business writing skills.

Knowledge&Experience:

• Ability to work independently with a high degree of attention to detail.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters and respond effectively to such situations.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required, specifically with strong Excel skills.

• Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.

• A high degree of motivation, resourcefulness, and positive energy.

• Customer service oriented, able to handle requests with diplomacy and care.

• College degree preferred.

• Three to five years of retail management experience.

• One or more years’ experience in a related field encompassing analytics, problem solving, organization,

and communication is needed for the position.
