The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

Global Compliance and Ethics (GCE), is responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust compliance program that ensures American Express is adhering to laws, regulations, and internal policies while fostering a culture of integrity and effective second line independent Compliance oversight.

The Vice President of the Compliance Transformation Office will drive the strategy and execution of the transformation of the Compliance Risk Management framework as defined in the Compliance Project Guardian workstream. They will report into the SVP, Deputy Chief Compliance Officer, work with the Head of the Compliance Risk Management Program, the Compliance & Ethics Leadership team and with multiple partners across numerous business units, functional areas, and geographies.

Success and effectiveness of this role will be demonstrated by the candidate’s ability to bring together multiple workstreams into a consistent methodology and regularly communicate progress, and dependencies. It is imperative for the candidate to work cohesively with leaders across GRC to ensure Compliance’s role in the broader GRC transformation efforts are represented.

The VP of the Compliance Transformation Office will be responsible for:

  • Leading strategy and execution of the transformation of compliance risk across the enterprise

  • Work directly with the Project Guardian Project Management Office to ensure Compliance progress against deliverables is monitored

  • Engage directly with consulting partners, review proposals and statements of work, and monitor progress against deliverables

  • Execute on a robust communication plan to keep relevant stakeholders at different levels informed, obtain buy-in, receive inputs and remove roadblocks as relevant

  • Collaborate across cross-functional stakeholders, bringing them along and ensure comprehensive engagement in initiatives and projects

  • Create material for regulatory updates and presentations to Board, Executive Committee, BU Presidents and several senior stakeholders

  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry best practices, lead regulatory engagement, provide oversight of processes to monitor, evaluate and integrate regulatory changes into Compliance framework & trainings

  • Be a thought leader with a proactive mindset – align stakeholders, assess risks and escalate or devise mitigation strategies, think through interdependencies, etc.

  • Facilitate the development of a strong risk culture throughout the enterprise, emphasizing risk awareness, accountability, and informed risk-taking within the bounds of the risk appetite

Qualifications:

  • Experience driving transformational change

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively

  • Project management skills and experience

  • Demonstrated history and ability to manage team and stakeholders spread across geographies and with varying backgrounds

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact and obtain buy-in from senior leaders and business counterparts

  • Proven expertise in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards

  • Experience in compliance risk management and understands critical compliance risk management lifecycle activities

  • Knowledge of regulatory changes and industry best practices, and providing oversight of processes to monitor, evaluate, and integrate regulatory changes into operational risk framework and trainings

Salary Range: $200,000.00 to $275,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
