About the U.S. Consumer Services Team
The U.S. Consumer Services Team is responsible for making membership essential by creating and delivering best in class marketing and our suite of differentiated products & lifestyle services (e.g. dining, travel). This team also drives the strategy, sourcing, and delivery of proprietary cash back, cobrand, and membership rewards consumer products and enterprise benefits to American Express members, with a focus on driving daily relevance and backing in their lives.
About the U.S. Consumer Services – Business Development & Partnerships Team
Within U.S. Consumer Services, the Business Development & Partnerships team is focused on building strong partnerships with great brands that truly differentiate our card products and deliver compelling partner-funded value to our Card Members. This organization is responsible for making membership essential by creating and delivering world class marketing through the sourcing and delivery of relevant, differentiated products & benefits that drive demand and inspire engaged card members to deepen loyalty. The Business Development & Partnerships team is responsible for identifying, negotiating, and launching relevant, new partnerships that deepen Card Member loyalty and membership across the Blue Box.
How will you make an impact in this role?
The Senior Manager, Global Travel Loyalty Partnerships will be part of the Points, Status and Loyalty Innovation team within the Business Development & Partnerships team. The remit for this role includes Membership Rewards and elite tier status partner management for 6 global air partners. This person will play a key role in fostering and maintaining strong relationships with enterprise partners and driving successful business outcomes for American Express and our travel partners.
Responsibilities include leading negotiations, owning partner growth strategy, proactively identifying incremental business development opportunities to deepen existing partnerships, and navigating technical and operational challenges with our partners. This individual will also be expected to support ongoing control management initiatives impacting the partnership space. In addition, the role requires an individual who can navigate the Blue Box, support enterprise initiatives involving these partners, and further the team’s goal of creating a best-in-class travel loyalty program.
This individual will be a results-oriented, team player with a flexible attitude and adept at managing through an amorphous environment and partner set. This individual must be able to understand travel industry trends and changing dynamics with the goal of becoming an SME in this space for our Membership Rewards and premium product business partners. Partner relationships are global, meaning this individual will need to represent the needs of all AXP markets in negotiations and day-to-day partner management (with the support of International Card Services). To excel in this role, a collaborative spirit and can-do attitude are required. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills (including slide building) are also expected.
The role will require collaboration across multiple global cross-functional teams including: Membership Rewards, Premium Products, International Card Services, Global Network Services, Control Management, Tech, Analytics, Finance, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Controllership.
Minimum Qualifications
Proactive growth mindset with an eagerness to challenge the status quo
Willingness to support our partners and points transfer program with a winning mindset and sense of urgency to get things done
Genuine interest in the travel loyalty space, specifically airlines
Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects under pressure
Strong attention to detail (involving operations, compliance, contracts, etc.)
Excellent interpersonal/influence management skills and experience working across business units, functions and executive levels
Ability to bring others along and motivate internal teams to work towards a common goal (e.g., negotiating pricing and commercial terms with partners and international markets)
Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong deck building is expected
Experience with partner negotiations and external partner relationships is a plus but is not required
Willingness to strengthen operational controls in place with our partners today to support ongoing control management efforts
Team player interested in working with an exceptional group of colleagues and partners
Flexibility to take occasional partner calls outside of non-traditional working hours given global scope of partners
Qualifications
Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
