Summary

Imagine what you can do here. Apple is a place where extraordinary people gather to do their lives best work. Together we create products and experiences people once couldn’t have imagined, and now, can’t imagine living without. It’s the diversity of those people and their ideas that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do.

Description

APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Drive product form, feature, and technologies through detailed engineering analysis. Design, own, and define mechanical components and assembly schemes. Design and document piece part specifications for parts made with a variety of manufacturing methods (ex. die-cutting, stamping, injection molding). Analyze static and dynamic structures to quantify device performance. Participate in the development/scaling of new manufacturing and assembly processes with external vendors. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Industrial Design, Operations, Electrical Engineering, Reliability, and Manufacturing Design to integrate technologies, enable manufacturability and assembly processes, conduct and analyze reliability test data, prove design functionality, and enable mass production of components. Create predictive models, conduct design of experiments (DOEs), and failure analysis to resolve root cause and implement corrective actions. Assemble early prototypes and travel to factory site to support engineering builds and tackle assembly line problems. Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and characterization test systems. 10% International and domestic travel is required. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400.00 - $220,900.00/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

PAY & BENEFITS: Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You’ll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses — including tuition. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments as well as relocation. Learn more about Apple Benefits: https://www.apple.com/careers/us/benefits.html.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technologies, or a related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or related occupation.

  • Education and/or experience must include the following skills:

  • Applying knowledge in mechanical dynamics, in order to understand reliability requirements and testing processes for real world stressors on a product - including drop impact and cyclic loading.

  • Utilizing FEA resources by setting up appropriate models for simulation, and interpreting results to inform design iterations and validation.

  • Prototyping mechanisms and part designs using 3D-printing, laser cutting, and machining to identify and utilize appropriate prototyping methods for a given design and learning objectives.

  • One year of experience with each of the following skills is required:

  • Communicating technical concepts in presentations and meetings internally and with external vendors or partners.

  • Conceptualizing and justifying requirements for a product or component’s form and function, including user functionality requirements and reliability requirements.

  • Drawing complete Free Body Diagrams to effectively assess loading scenarios on components and to inform design decisions.

  • Generating and analyzing tolerance stacks, and proven ability to create mass-manufacturable designs using accurate tolerance analysis.

  • Designing a mechanism or complete product from brainstorming and conceptualization to mass production, with evaluation of cosmetics, tolerance analysis, assembly process, functionality, and user experience.

  • Utilizing manufacturing process and supply chain knowledge to produce a complete Bill of Materials (BOM) and cost analysis for mass production.

  • Using presentation design software to create informative presentations to articulate design problems, showcase solutions and summarize key technical calculations.

  • Utilizing 3D CAD for detailed design of complex assemblies, and 2D CAD and GD&T for technical drafting and drawing to create and communicate design intent and requirements to vendors.

  • Using Design of Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to work with product manufacturing processes to design products, including knowledge of injection molding principles and CNC manufacturing constraints.

  • Selecting optimal materials using knowledge of engineering material properties (including metals, polymers and ceramics) to meet design criteria.

  • Applying design practices, including evaluation matrices, to consolidate requests, evaluate design options, and formulate a design proposal.

  • Leveraging program management practices, including resource planning charts and timelines, to create validation plans for new designs.
